I've been playing for about 2 years now and I'd rate myself at intermediate at best. If you want to learn to play you really have to find a song and learn it from start to finish, its not easy to do sometimes, especially with electric and some artists using a lot of layering. Eventually you'll build up a repertoire of songs which will boost your confidence and morale, some might find it strange but you need it.
Dexterity comes with practise, 10-20 minutes a day at least, but don't play for more than 20 minutes at a time or you'll burn your fingers out and won't want to play for ages. If your struggling with major chords, take a break and play some simple lead runs.
If you spend alot of time on a computer, leave your guitar close by, you'll be surprised how often you reach for it and just beat out some riffs, it all adds up over time.
Try not to get overconfident or someday, as henke said, you'll decide to learn some song and thinking you've got a bit of skill you'll see something that just blows your mind.

I'm at about the same playing time and skill level as DaBeast, and I agree with him on all points. I keep my guitar by my computer, and every so often just pick it up and start playing.
A good idea would be to find another player to practice with. Having someone to demonstrate progress to compels you to improve.
