Have they done anything about adding the team support that really should've been in there from the get-go into the matchmaking system?
Do you mean like a party system? Because you can host a friends-only game, invite your friends, and then open it up to a public game.
Kroakie- My steam name's the same as here.

Arrgh, I got bullied into getting this by an evangelizing friend. Downloading now, in as _doctorfrog_.
I had a hell of a time actually buying the damn game. It seemed like I could access any part of Steam and their store except the Left4Dead pages.

Yeah, as in "I've got a group of 4 together, find us a group of 4 to play against."
The existing system certainly allows what you say, but then you just end up with coordinated teams versus random players, and it's not really fun.

Ah. I usually play with folks from the Zombie Master forums, so it's not difficult for us to assemble eight players and have a semi-coordinated game.

Hey Frog, hope we didn't bore the hell out of you. Having Fox around is like having your own personal GPS navigator for the game. He knows everything that's gonna happen, and how best to deal with it. Kinda takes the tension out of things.
About 20 minutes after you left, I almost fell asleep at the keyboard. :P

I found that the game is best played with people of similar skills levels. The best fun I had is when all the players are relatively new and still trying to figure out the strategy, but not such total newbies that they run every which way trying to get the most kills.

No problem, sorry I just disappeared. For some reason, Steam games randomly give me out of memory errors, in spite of my 4GB of memory. I couldn't restart the game without the same error, and by then, my gf had noticed the lack of action on my screen and (bless her) pounced.
Actually, it's a lot more fun when you play with people you know, even if it is very peripherally. And yes, having a tour guide is what it is, but that friend that convinced me to buy the game? Same kinda dude; I'm used to it. ;-) I'd be up for another session in the future.

Definitely - experienced FPS players playing L4D for the first time. That's what I was when I first started and, luckily, found other players like that (playing on the highest difficulty from the get go has its perks). Had a blast.
But now that I figured out each more, where the weapons spawn and where the hordes start (as random as it is, it's still pretty predictable), it's gotten quite repetitive. New campaigns would be much welcome.

Yeah, I think I'm ready to take a break from L4D for this reason. Running the same stale maps even with the addition of the new Versus content is getting old.

I had an extremely fun session with Kroakie last night. More proof that an entire squadron of jets buzzes Dethtoll's house whenever he suggests that L4D is a SP game.
