If you Aussies ever get lucky and you get the higher rating (or if Australia ever hands off rating things to non-government entities, which I see as less likely) I imagine a lot of games that were refused classification would be up for a review.

Well, I would assume that it's the fresh urine stains on artistic freedom that's bothersome, instead of boycotts due to not properly filling a gore quota.

Well at least we got the game and it wasn't banned outright(doesn't matter much to me that they ommited the decapitation).
But I suspect that with the attention it got, there'll be a new controversy brewing around the corner.

They've omitted much more than just decapitation. All dismemberment/gore is removed, zombies do not catch on fire, they disappear as soon as they are killed, there is barely any blood at all when you shoot them and SWAT zombies are completely removed. Being a New Zealander this doesn't apply to me (although if I am playing with Aussies there are no SWAT zombies for me either) and I can say, and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually get into 'gore' in games, that the new dismemberment/gore system is a lot of messy fun.
Pipe Bomb + Dismemberment + Physics = Hilarity
Chet explained that with Germany, for example, they have a good working relationship and are aware of what is and is not acceptable but Australia caught them by complete suprise. So I'd reckon that Valve are still working on a better compromise and that this heavily neutered version was just to quickly get through the censors.

It's been confirmed that Aussies can be gifted the uncensored version and it won't be IP censored. This applies to the demo at least, the effect on the full version remains to be seen obviously.

Well looks like I'll be importing my copy through eBay because that sounds like complete crap. What's the point of having a zombie shooter without the violence.

Got my hands on the demo today. Just two levels and I had more fun with them than I did with the entirety of L4D1.
Definitely picking this up come Christmas.

It really makes L4D look like an in-progress beta. This game definitely has enough content and so I have it pre-ordered, but I'm still somewhat sore over the lack of additions to L4D.
