Just did a playthrough (on advanced realistic)...
Maybe because you're playing realistic rather than normal campaign?

Just did a playthrough (on advanced realistic) with 2 buddies and a random dude who kept pissing the witch off for some reason. From the forklift bit until the safehouse, there were an incredible amount of hordes and almost no lulls - enough to kill some/all of us multiple times. The final kill count for the whole campaign was like 4258. Did the AI director just take a disliking to us specifically, or did any of you get this too?
That seems like an unusually high body count, but I can confirm the forklift dash features unending hordes. It took my group and I a couple minutes to realize that to try and hold our ground would inevitably result in defeat.

That's been mentioned already (hence my previous post using the word crescendo), but yeah the high kill count must have been because you guys didnt realize it was an unending horde and kept trying to fend them off.

We did take a while to get past the bus, but even after that it kept spawning hordes like mad. Maybe a crescendo end trigger misfire?

The game will keep spawning hordes until you actually get to the safe room. It might seem like a long fight from the forklift/bus area to the end, but I think that's kind of the point: the longer it takes the more likely someone will get pounced/snatched/disabled/killed. Things can deteriorate pretty quickly the moment someone goes down given the unlimited rushes you face.

I want to play this series again. My favorite mp game ever. CAnnot wait to get a proper PC back up.

Actually, it was the water damage. I think a buddy is going to let me use a ~4 year old system for a bit so I can play L4D and such.

Okay Steam. You want to download a 4.5 GB update. But why? Huh? Are these all of L4D1's campaigns bunched up in tiny 1s and 0s, repackaged into tasty L4D2 treats? Why is your news page updated but missing any information about this? Is my new hard disk with the Steam partition haemorrhaging data and are you silently picking up the pieces? Why won't you tell me? Don't you love me any more!? Why, god damn you, why? :(
Also, L4D's kinda unplayable with high pings, eh? Swiping at a mob and having them recoil a second after the fact is... a bit disappointing. Or maybe I just suck at it? Gee, I dunno. Why'd I buy these, again
