You're not the first person to tell me that. And it's true, Versus is a hellhole.

Did they ever get around to adding in a pure servers only tag? As it was, it would just put you up on any server no matter what ridiculous mods that server was running, and you didn't get any choice in the matter.
The whole damn affair was a clusterfuck, plain and simple.

No "tag", but there's a way to disable custom content in the options menu I believe. I've never had what you say happen to me, but that's because I had custom content set to none. Since day one, I've only played on official maps (in online multiplayer that is, with random people.)

valve's matchmaking doesn't take skill into account. e.g. quake live does it. valve just tries to find servers in your vicinity and fails miserably.

Quake's skill system is damn near broken itself.

Your point being in regards to L4D ? None.
Whatever, this is about L4D and its matchmaking fails, which is a fact. It doesn't even try to incorporate "skill", it just doesn't get measured. A simple serverbrowser with favorites would be enough. BUT NO, we all have to use SteamFriends and SteamGroups (which still doesn't work as intended after 10 patches). I don't wanna even begin to think about the new "ideas" they incorporate into L4D2 regarding matchmaking......uaaaaaaahhhhh

Pssst, there is a server browser and it does have favourites. Bind the console command openserverbrowser to a seldom used key like F12. This shit has been common knowledge since before the game was even released.
mothra on 27/7/2009 at 11:47
or type "openserverbrowser" in console
CONSOLE !!!! being the keyword here.
and try it on an european system where keybinds to "~" are not working and you have to manually edit the steam launch command, the cfg file and the advanced options to make it stick. this is not customerfriendly. Which is why I am complaining.
Personally, I connect only via console but that should not be necessary.

Like you really need a reason.
