Dresden: Yeah, it's a pretty terrible video, but that doesn't necessarily invalidate their point. The new campaigns, monsters, weapons, etc are all things that Valve had said would be free DLC for L4D. It's easy to see how them announcing L4D2, which contains all those things, can be seen as Valve going back on their word. Of course, Valve isn't beholden to live up to anything they say, but it's a good way to lose customer goodwill, as we've seen.
Of course, Valve says those things they promised for the original are still coming, which just seems like they've made the bizarro decision to split the community.
Either way, this is a strange situation they've put themselves in.

The only appropriate response to the boycotters is:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t185/dethtoll/QQSUMMOAR.jpgWhile I agree that Left4Dead, as it stands now, even with the updates, still isn't worth the $50 that my mother paid for it (it was a Christmas gift), Valve has specifically
said that they would support L4D1 with new content. They haven't gone back on that.
Then there's the boycotters insisting that all the new content in L4D2- which has already been revealed to be to be way beyond what L4D1 had- should be a free addon to L4D1. What the fuck? This whole thing just smacks of entitlement. It's sickening. Valve treat their fanbase pretty goddamn well and this is the thanks they get? Fuck.

Well, the boycotters are mainly mad that VALVe "promised" (I don't know if VALVe ever promised anything) content for L4D1 (free), and instead of getting it, they announce L4D2. While it may be true that valve "lied" (if you wanna see it this way - I see it more as poor information flowing) about new campaigns and new characters for l4d1, they already released survival mode and as you said dethtoll, are saying they will support l4d1 even though l4d2 is coming out. I mean, I even heard that l4d1 maps can be easily played in l4d2. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after all the content I've heard about for l4d2 I'm leaning toward being happy about the game. I can't fully judge the game yet, since it's obviously not released, and there's still time for polish.

I don't see why they won't just make l4d2 an expansion pack. I'd buy it for 20 bucks and would make me feel better about dishing out 50 dollars for l4d1, which, although fun, so far hasn't been worth the money.

As far as I know.. nobody has announced what the price is going to be. What if it ends up being a 30 dollar game. I'd pay for that. Nobody knows that Valve isn't gearing up to release this another orange box type bundle. They may announce HL2:ep3. I think all this whining is a little premature. Not that I'm not annoyed about it, but it doesn't piss me off enough to spend even the small amount of time to photoshop 3 fingers out of the L4D logo. Plans change.

Because, there's way too much content to justify an expansion pack. I admit I thought the same thing at first. If all they were doing was adding a couple things, it would be a different story. You have to try to understand where they are coming from, and read/watch all the news/videos that are already out about the game.

just out of curiosity, all you people who say l4d1 hasn't been worth the money, how many hours have you spent playing it?

I've played the singleplayer campaigns a lot. But every attempt at multiplayer has been a disaster. A terrible, horrible disaster. Fuck L4D multiplayer.
sNeaksieGarrett on 12/6/2009 at 03:23
Are you shitting me? Multiplayer is where it's at. You must have just had a bad team I'm guessing. (You can't honestly think singleplayer is better than multiplayer with the bots. Not that singleplayer isn't enjoyable, mind you.)
