The couple of games I've played, I've always been lucky with random groups. There was just one incident where a player was obviously being a complete dick, and that was over in less than a minute. I wonder whether the griefer kiddies mainly played in the 1-2 months after
L4D came out and then moved on to newer fare.
I played from the launch date and only had 2-3 experiences with complete fucktards in the first couple of weeks. L4D is the only mutliplayer game I've ever really liked and that's given me a gaming high like a good single player game can. The only problem I have is that it can sometimes be hard to find a game over here on the NZ/Oz servers.
The idiot ratio did go sky high during the christmas season though.

What some people don't understand is that Left 4 Dead is a MULTIPLAYER GAME. (The "Single Player" is the equivalent of bot-matches in Unreal Tournament, so it's entirely redundant.) A sequel this soon will only serve to splinter the community, similar to what premium map packs do to console MP playerbases, except this is far worse since it's a full new game. This might not matter be all that bad in America or Europe, but it will hurt here in Australasia.
Someone might argue something along the lines of Modern Warfare 2 eating at CoD4:MW1's MP playerbase, how is that even a fair comparison? CoD4 PC would've been out for two years by that point and many people would've likely moved onto other games by then.
Plus loads of people play the Call of Duties exclusively for the SP, it a full blown campaign which would've been THE FOCUS of the developers' time. The primary selling point of Call of Duty IS the SP. The whole "1 year between sequels" argument is fine for SP focused games.
Valve are going after the console sales, pure and simple. It's highly unlikely that the Xbox 360 version will carry anything less than a $59 USD RRP. The generalisation of Xbox owners by publishers' PR departments are that they're chumps who enjoy being nickelled-and-dimed to death and considering the sheer number of console owners who pay for stupid shit (one CoD:WaW premium map pack sold at least a million), I don't blame them.

So heres the explanation why it took so long for the other two versus maps. They werent slow, they almost completely jumped ship. :tsktsk:

Which, incidentally, was the whole point of Unreal Tournament for (
http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=440) more than half of those who bought it - "According to Epic producer Tanya Jessen, 50% of Unreal Tournament 2004 owners never went online on PC."
I'd be interested to find out the corresponding statistic for L4D.

Hmm... kinda resembles a humanoid chicken. I can't help but think the noise it makes will be "Cluck cluck!"

Looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie. I honestly find it more comical than scary.

i chuckled. l4d2 goes TF2......maybe she's russian ?
well, l4d 1 had its share of "comic" monsters as well, so that doesn't surprise or mean anything. still no purchase for me. gonna wait until its down to expansion or DLC price.
