It is irrelevant to his situation. I was just saying what the online status was in case anyone cared to play it.

Nexuiz (or, rather, (
http://www.nexuiz.com/classic.php) Nexuiz Classic, don't ask, weird issue with money involved) is a free, open-source shooter that plays a lot like the classic Unreal Tournament. It's a little rough around the edges (the character models are truly
awful), but seemed like fun to me when I tried it a year or so back, especially for freeware.

@Koki: Quake 2 was the highpoint for the Quake series. Q2CTF was the best!
Nexuiz is pretty good, especially because it actually has a grappling hook, which today's games don't have. The weapons in Nexuiz are also fun to use and quite deadly, with the exception of the pathetic machine gun and morter. It also has a really great soundtrack.
Also check out Alien Arena. It uses the Quake 2 engine, but has modern graphical effects.

There's always Team Fortress 2. Maybe you can get a real game in if it's on LAN.

I quit playing last year because it's turned into a fucking MMO. I miss the old days.

Try (
http://www.gamershell.com/download_15252.shtml) Call of Juarez 1 Multiplayer Demo. It´s free to download with two maps and two game modes (deathmatch and team deathmatch) and two out of 4 player classes.
If you decide you like to play some simple straight forward Cowboy and Indian without any skill trees or special equipment you can always buy the full version which should be really cheap these days.
I had a blast with Call of Juarez Multiplayer. Playing online can be annoying though because there´s no anti cheat software, so there are players using wallhacks and aimbots everywhere. Playing against those pricks without using cheats yourself made winning all the more satisfying.
