I don't know. If I had to be paid to Dromed it would feel too much like work. On the other hand, when my wife starts complaining about spending all that time at the computer, I could say, "Hey! I'm workin' here! I need another croissant!"
I play
(https://www.paradoxplaza.com/cities-skylines?gclid=CKOVh76u6NACFc1lfgodN1UNxw) Cities: Skylines on Steam, and the modders there have a 'Donate' button for folks who wish to support them. I suppose I could slap a 'Donate' on my website, but I'm in this for the fun.

It would be great to get paid, but i know that will never happen, my family thinks i shouldn't be doing FMs for free, but i´m doing it as a hobby.

Unfortunately, the current situation in our community is as follows: sometimes requests from authors do not receive a response.
Here's an example from my experience.
I asked SkyFoxx to voice Garrett for Raven's Nest. However, I was refused. Sly was very biased towards me, he said he was not sure that I will release a mission and does not want to waste his precious time (this despite the fact that by the time I released LIFE and BV).
Friends help friends, and they do not care about strangers. All are ready to help Cardia, because they know him. On DarkFate is the same.
But these things hinder the development. After such once again I do not want to ask anyone, because it looks like a humiliation. I'm doing an interesting mission with good graphics, but I stumble on such obstacles, because no one wants to help, because no one has the time, inspiration, experience, etc. etc.
Another example. One person agreed to do 8 paintings for my video. However, he made only a half and then disappeared.
Elvis was doing to me new objects, but then he also suddenly disappeared. I had no choice but to learn Blender (of course I do not regret it).
When you have received payment - you take over 100% responsible and you can not just run away, neither saying a word.
In the community, there is no working mechanism to speed up the process of creating new mods. Either you're somebody's friend or learn to do everything himself. I'd rather pay some amount and received my order without humiliations and disappointments.
No offense, guys, but I think that the Old Guards delaying progress. As always, this is normal, but we must look for new ways or we will die out like dinosaurs.
I have nothing against SlyFoxx or any other. Necrobob's voice I liked much more. If Sly agreed, I would not know about the other talented Garrett.
But it is uncomfortable when the author is dependent on someone's goodwill. Dependence kills creativity, not money.
As for payment, these things must be addressed by e-mail, and not to discuss in the forum.
I think we should discuss this quastion and to develop a mechanism that will extend the modding life without violating the license agreement.

Especially with a game that's getting close to 20 years...
Eighteen to be precise! Perhaps you missed the threads pertaining to that fact. :)

Having spent a good many years in various countries overseas, I can appreciate ST's directness and blatant honesty. I think he'd rather pay for an artist's services to get XYZ done rather than spend a lot of time boot-licking, in the hopes that the artist agrees to commit. I'm sure he's only spotlighting certain folks to use as examples of what he's trying to communicate.
@Soul Tear: People have real lives and real problems. Those problems may prevent them from doing work on a mission. No one likes Cardia's missions more than yours. It's not about that. If I may speak for SlyFoxx (who has volunteered his service for some of my missions),
every FM artist wants him. He has been buried in requests to do voice work. Obviously, he cannot do this for everyone. So he is in a position to pick the ones he feels he can do and still live a normal life. Extremely complicated missions--where the English needs serious repair--he just can't be bothered with. He doesn't have the time nor the desire; real life has priority. Like I said, some of us have lives that are complicated, to put it nicely.
My 2 cents worth.

@ Soul Tear then it may be time to tap other talent (And there is an immeasurable talent on these forums). So, when you refer to disinterest from Sly, and Ricebug refers to the possibility of not being on earth after Dec 2017, I can't help but wonder, "What can this community can do to start passing various torches to the next gen for a game nearly 20 years old?". We've had many who, as you said, have *poofed*
As is, I feel that introducing private "donations" to the process would, in fact, kill the community long term.
Purgator on 11/12/2016 at 17:36
I would like to add that whatever is discussed privately between members should remain so. This is a public forum.
If someone doesn't want to commit to a project and communicates this privately, for whatever reason, then that information shouldn't be made public.
PMs are there for a reason.

Just my two cents, but payment wouldn't motivate me, and I'm assuming most, if not all, mission authors here. ** I would think object creators / voice actors are probably on the same wavelength with that. Slightly off topic, but even the FM contests I typically shy away from due to time constraints, although I think it's great that the community has awarded prizes for some of those. But even then, I would be more motivated to compete for some kind of Taffer-Oscar, than a prize.
**Edit: Payment
that the community is able to raise would not motivate me. But.. if we're talking a green Lambo, I'd make a killing selling it to Slyfoxx, so I will make a concession for that :ebil:

Not exactly like the one above, tee hee.. but you get the idea. I wonder if the community could do something like this. This would definitely bring me out of the shadows to compete.. no joke!
