What about survival? For the last ten years, after getting two Masters degrees, I'm still paid minimum wage for a highly qualified and underpaid job that sucks out all of my free time. Living in one of the more expensive cities right now (Paris, where my rent is as high as my entire salary -- I can definitely relate to Garrett's landlord problems BTW), without any perspectives elsewhere, I simply can't afford to make fan missions right now, which is very frustrating... Maybe I should ditch my efforts and get into youtubing instead, as it appears that some people make a good living from that (I'd much prefer to get paid to make FMs though). I agree making fan missions shouldn't be a "job", that we should simply build missions for the love of it, or as a hobby, but before having the possibility of doing this, one must first have a reliable roof, a job, and free time... Getting rich off the community is one thing, getting the support one needs to keep making FMs is another... The last time I released a FM I was still just a teen living in my parent's house. Just sayin'.

Everybody makes mission for him(her)self, but almost nobody can play them.
Cardia, you're lucky!

Oh, it's a sad story. Somebody has no job at all. Somebody has job, but has no money for it. Which of them is less happy?
I think the one who has no hobby...

So is there any chance of seeing a new mission from you in the near future?

I don't want to get this topic off track, but I've been working on different projects for years... Everything I've talked about elsewhere is still on my old computer. Some of these projects you'll find on the forums, others on my site, and still others are only concepts for now. :)

BonSoir Sperry, today i visited Amiens, its a beautiful city with an impressive cathedral, not very far away from where i live, you could try find jobs there, have you though leaving Paris? from what i' ve heard Paris is very expensive to live and its currently very chaotic and polluted, often you can barely see the sun. I´m also with no job, but once i improve my french i´m sure the chances of finding some job will increase.
J'amerai aussi gagner argent avec les Thief missions, mais malheureusement c'est ne pas possible.

Maybe its time you need to find to replay your missions.

I've thought about this topic quite a bit for The Dark Mod. Based on what I known of the legalities of Creative Commons and GPL projects,
I think that FM's that include map geometry only could be sold but any inclusion of non-free assets would be a deal breaker.
Not that I'm a proper lawyer who would understand all of id Software \ Bethesda \ Zenimax contractual terms.
Hmm. I guess, if maps were converted to a non-id-software format then they wouldn't be subject to the legal constraints of the game or SDK license.
It would then be a matter of shipping a converter and installer with the missions. (Kinda ugly though. Script syntax, entity syntax, and a few id Software
SDK attributes in the actual map format would mean you'd need several converters or something that splits only the geometry out as the commercial part.
For Thief, I suppose you could do the same. Sell only the mission in a non-commercial format and use a converter to allow these external "commercial missions" to run in Thief.
Even though this seems to be legally sound from a technical point-of-view, I'll bet that you'd still need to have some sort of non-commercial platform that plays these things
in their native format as some sort of non-compete criteria. It could be a really junky\non-functional project though.
All this said, we'd still probably shy away from any of this to avoid any unwanted attention to the project from Zenimax copyright trolls (etc).

Well, if I win the Mega Million lottery, which is highly doubtful. Every Author is going to receive a new computer and $10,000 from an unknown source.

Unknown source for anonymous persons? Sounds fantastically. Don't forget to add Le Corbeau to your list.
(Sounds if you don't really hope to win the lottery. Strange.)
