Okay, so I picked up this game cause: 1) I love the book series. 2) The other Lego games are apparently good. 3) Got a $10 pre-order bonus gift card.
I must say that I absolutely love it. (9.5/10, due to the weird control scheme on PC) From what I've read it plays differently from the others (which are supposedly more action oriented.) LHP (for short) is more like an adventure game (though you do have a health bar).
Sometimes you just cast spells on stuff to see what happens, sometimes different things happen each time you cast. It's really fun to watch. And there are secrets....EVERYWHERE. Some are obvious, other are really complex, and some you can't complete unless you get a spell later in the game and return to the spot in "Free Play" mode.
I don't know if anybody else has it, but I would recommend picking it up, then maybe we could use this thread to try and figure out some of the more complex puzzles (like in Part 2, I can find the blasted 8th torch to blow up like a cannon).
I definitely have to pick up Lego Star Wars now.

Mine is arriving on or around July 6th. I'm a little apprehensive about it, so it's good to hear a positive review.
Lego Star Wars is all kinds of awesome. The only small gripe I have is that the flying sections in The Original Trilogy take a lot of getting used to and you die quite a bit while trying to learn how to handle the ships. Other than that, they're solid fun. A bit repetitive, but very addicting.

I love Lego Star Wars for co-op games with my girlfriend. Wasn't all too interested in Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones (played the demo for the latter and thought it didn't hold a candle to its older siblings), but this one sounds worth checking out.

Years 1-4? I thought the books covered only four?

7 books, 7 years.
Although you have to admire to marketing mentality of a guaranteed sequel to this.

I guess it's also that they can't pre-empt the last two films, since the games obviously adapt the movies. Doing Lego Harry Potter Years 1-6 and then Lego Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows wouldn't make all that much sense.

And the guaranteed Complete Saga version a year or two later.

Star Wars and Indiana Jones were both good, but Batman, while a very cool concept, had absoultely abysmal design and gameplay. I still played it all the way through because it was enjoyable enough, but there were camera angle problems unlike anything I've ever seen. Literally, places where my character was falling from a ledge or getting killed and I couldn't see what was happening because there was some huge piece of unnecessary foreground scenery or prop in the way. It was the equivalent of having someone wave their hand in front of your face while you were trying to play. I think the foreground designers were the last to put their stuff in, and they did it without any knowledge of where the characters would be at any given time. Doorways to the next sections were often hidden so far back in dark corners that you could spend hours trying to figure out what to do next. Just really, really lazy design, and very little beta testing it seems. Really a shame because most of the characters have really cool abilities and the sets are really fun when you can see what's going on.
The other thing I've noticed about the Lego games that I'm wondering if they've fixed yet: in co-op mode, it's sometimes almost impossible to see what's going on when the characters move in opposite directions, because the camera zooms out to accommodate the distance between the two. I noticed that the Indy 2 demo has a split screen feature when this happened, and it seemed to work very well. Did they incorporate that in the Harrry Potter game?
Going to pick this up over the weekend for sure. If you haven't played the Lego games, at least get Star Wars II (the original series) and Indiana Jones 1, they are the fucking bomb.

I don't recall having problems playing Lego Batman (played on console if that makes a difference).... it was just exceedingly boring.

Yeah - but did you play co-op much? That's where the majority of the problems were, and since I played it mostly with my kids it was a HUGE problem.
