There have been several threads recently about Lego Thief pictures, such as:

The first two links there were about me (but unfortunately I never noticed those threads until now). I made a Lego version of Garrett and a few other characters three years ago and submitted a story to The Circle. That was July 2001. I never took the people apart, because how could I?
Besides, I always had thoughts of making a Lego movie with them (an old hobby of mine), but I never did.
Until now.The movie is still in progress, but I put a few screenshots (which are better than my old photos even by themselves) and a small clip online (

Note: In the old photos Garrett had a more accurate torso/arms/hands. I changed them to something that worked better for the purposes of my movie, even if it doesn't look as much like Garret's outfit.

Sounds, and looks tight but I can't download the clip. I get a Page Not Found when clicking on it and I can't "Save Target As"

Whoops! It's fixed now. Thanks for letting me know.

Holy crap! Dude thats sweet.
How long does it take to make somthing like that. You've got some mad lego building skillz based on the pictures at the site. Thats one nice ass building.
Where did you get all of those legos? I can't find any crates-o-legos anymore, only sets, and those you can't do crap with, usually. If I even attempted that it would look like a castle that Garrett sees when he's on acid, all colorful and trippy.

Thanks!
The building isn't actually a building, it's several unconnected movie sets (not the "Lego set" meaning of "set"). Three sets are pictured in the pictures, and I constructed a fourth today. The only lighting I'm using is christmas lights and a small flashlight and stuff (and a computer monitor glowing nearby) and it's coming out much better than I expected.
Each set took a few hours to build, the lighting took a little extra time beyond that. I'm building each set with a plan for how I'll use it. The animation takes a while--the clip on the site took maybe 3 hours total, in two sessions--and editing takes a little while too. Editing is mostly just adjusting the length of certain parts to make it flow better and to have pauses.
I'll be adding sound effects from the Thief games soon.
As for where I got the Legos, recently I've been expanding my collection mostly in two ways: I've been really lucky with some thrift store finds, and I get lots of sets when they go on clearance (which happens whenever new ones come out). I particularly like getting Harry Potter sets when I find them cheap, because they have lots of good castle pieces. Every once in a while I find someplace selling certain sets at like 70% off and buy a whole bunch. That's the way to do it.

Fuck me, that's fantastic!
I've made some Lego animations myself in the past, but nothing close to the smooth quality and atmosphere of that!
Beautiful stuff!
