As much as this game has missed the point you have to hand it to them - The City is quite the maze.

So I started over on default master difficulty a few days ago (with the same HUD options, so still no focus) and it's taken 16 hours to get most of the way through the main mission of Chapter 4 (I've just ridden the elevator after the bit with Basso). So I still presumably have all the between chapter sidequest stuff to do before I get to chapter 5, too. No idea how anyone is beating this in 8-9 hours.
I'm kinda thinking most reviewers and the public played with Quest Markers on. Walker at RPS said he didn't and enjoyed stumbling around for a long time. So that's interesting.

The main missions don't take all that long. I haven't played the game all the way through, but 8-9 seems pretty reasonable for the main storyline.

It's taken me that long to get to chapter 4.

As a comparison, some Thief 2 FM's ended up with playtimes of 4 - 5 hours np. And that's not counting the entire campaign. But in my opinion, the game looks really really good, enjoyed the atmosphere and some side-missions as well. Don't mind the lack of editors, as some awesome awesome peeps are keeping em coming, still, for the past Thief series.
