Oh, I thought DX:HR's story bits were generally poor...
For examples...
Suspicions were aroused when UNATCO/Manderley handed out bonuses for completed missions. Not very sure I'm comfortable there... UN staff operate as Soldiers of Fortune... who knew? DX1 left clues and left me to join the dots.
I became suspicious of David Sarif/Sarif Industries when Jensen told me that I was suspicious of Sarif and Sarif Industries. DX:HR told me what to think and when. Even though I didn't and had no reason to. Isn't IT Pritchard's job?
Though I suppose I really should have been suspicious that, as Sarif Inc's chief security guy, none of the other security staff ever reported to me. No one turned up for staff appraisal meetings... no nothing. I didn't even know any of their names. What sort of organisation is this? Oh never mind...
--edit--
...back to Thi4f though... anyone worked out why your need to charge your primordial Focus power with poppies?

There are ghosts too. Besides why would you discount ghosts in a world where the undead exist?
It's true, there are Apparitions wandering about around the old cathedral. Just outside the door and in the cloisters. Wasn't part of the mission to help an Apparition find some stuff? Can't remember the name now...

Brother Murus. And the only reason I know that is because it came up recently in a fan mission test and not because of any extensive Thief knowledge.

Isn't this all a bit moot with it being a reboot and all? It's a brave new world.

True for the most part, but The Haunted Cathedral does exist in this game, so you'd have to assume it has some of the same creatures/spirits. No guarantees though I guess.

I think if you're befuddled now it's going to stay that way. But once you're done, you should give it another go at a later date. Even though you won't feel like it at the time. There's a fair bit of good stuff in there.
What you say makes sense. After I get around to the original Deus Ex and the 15 or so other games on my backlog list, I'll go back and play HR on a higher difficulty. I am enjoying the stealth aspects but am finding that the game has become quite easy near the end.

It's preloading! Tomorrow I return to the City. Despite having had my expectations adjusted by reviews and user comments, I'm actually kinda giddy. :)

I have to say, I'm sitting here at work waiting to get back home and keep playing. That doesn't happen with too many games.

Can't comment much on the story. Consensus seems to be that it's a disaster, but so far I'm intrigued at least. If I hadn't read so much negativity I wouldn't be thinking about it at this point.
I'm on the next to last mission and I still have no idea what's really going on. That makes it hard to even care. In all of the other games, once the actual plot kicked in you knew what the stakes were. In this it feels like there are too many characters spread too thin and there isn't nearly enough info to engage me. That's compounded even more by the city sections which are way too long and boring. By the time I get to the next mission, I've almost forgotten what's happening in the plot.

I noticed that Thief isn't even on the top 100 games being played list on Steam. That seems pretty bad for for a major release that came out only 2 days ago, although obviously being a new release means it doesn't have the userbase that others games have. Currently Bioshock Infinite is #85 and Dishonored is #99.
