True, but it doesn't change the fact that the underlying issue reflects very poorly on the male gamer community. Regardless of whether this is a business decision or not, the whole thing is pretty pathetic.

To be fair, there aren't that many females into FPS games. I do have that one friend who used to play Quake/No One Lives Forever/Unreal/Half-life with me though.

Yes, I agree. But a small lan center owners cant fix what is wrong with half of the male gaming population, can he? Best they can do is control the damage... which they did.

Definitely. The people who made this decision may very well be right from a business point of view, and in the end doing the right thing at the expense of income doesn't keep you in business. It's not them that I find pathetic so much as the dicks who made them decide that this was the decision they needed to take, i.e. "mysogynistic jackwagons".

Most girls I've met outside of LANs have been more into Wolfenstein 3D & Doom than the more current gen FPS's. Course there's always exceptions.

Pretty stupid, but who cares?
They could have just issued a two part warning:
Women: sweaty nerds might make you uncomfortable or say stupid things to you. Be ready for that, because we, the organizers of this event, ultimately cannot control the things that come out of their mouths or keyboards. In fact, we're so sure that the crowd we're having come will be unable to control themselves, we strongly suggest you don't come unless you're sure you can handle a bunch of sexually frustrated man-children.
Men: trash talk if you like, but act like an idiot, and you'll have to leave. And yes, we'll define "idiocy" however we want, you're technically an adult and should know better.
OTOH, if these guys want to throw a dick-waving party, let 'em. This is stupid, but it isn't an outrage.
Full disclosure: I'm a guy and I've never been to a LAN party or sexually harassed.

I'm a guy and I was sexually harassed at a LAN :(

Stop dressing like a whore, then.

Aye, I agree. Its sad our medium is basically oversaturated with either the misogynistic "nice guy" awkward aspie nerds, or the post-halo misogynistic douche frat boy mentality types. But as the medium grows and swallows more audiences, even with casual "mom" market, I think it will slowly be able to detach itself from that image.

While we're at it, lets put a "you may be discriminated or sexually harassed" disclaimer at all starbuckses, restaurants and generally crowdy place as well! That will work great at not offending both sides of our customer base!

That's like... asking 90% of your customers not to be themselves. And I don't think most of them are even capable of that :erg:
