Suggesting that a Lan party is the same as active socialising is a little silly in my opinion. In reality its no different from playing online mixed with playing in a room with your friends. It isn't the same as going outside and meeting people, you're just changing the scenery from one greasy sweat filled room to a larger one.
Oh, get off your high horse. How is a LAN party any less social than any other activity? Going for meals, going to bars, participating in sports clubs... all of those are social activities formed around a common interest. Just because gaming's typically a nerdy doesn't make it less so. Eg A bunch dudes who get together to play tabletop wargames, board games, D&D, whatever, aren't any less social than a bunch of dudes who might meet regularly to watch sports matches on TV and/or attend live sporting events.

Not to mention "separating men and ladies is the norm" isn't a fucking excuse. You want to stop misogyny? THROW OUT THE FUCKING MISOGYNISTS. Establish rules and STICK TO THEM.

Uh, for starters, nobody talks with anybody. Unless you can call random shouts of memes and profanities a conversation.

Sweepingly generalise much? That's not a legitimate point.
Practically everyone would gather and break bread at the LANs (in-between, prior, during and after game sessions) that I used to attend in the early '00s. Mind you the majority of attendees were regulars on a specific forum, so there was an existing rapport.
I can imagine the atmosphere being quite different in a net cafe-esque environment, possibly being similar to that of a pub server on the net. But then goes back to my point that generalisations are far to inaccurate to be used as legitimate points in an argument.

Since dethtoll was offended by this event, now they're going to have to ban him too.

So, because something is nerdy you think I don't like it and don't believe it could be socialising? thats weak. It isn't socialising because your eyes are glued to a screen, you arn't actually conversing with people, aside from

Stuff like table top war gaming or some old school rpg D&D stuff is fine, because you actually have to talk to people (while doing your best to live out childish fantasies).

As has been said already, men and women are separated in sports. why don't you spout bile over the Olympic commission, and every other sport association.
It sucks that something like gaming should come down to it for such silly reasons but then when people like you exist its really not hard to understand why it happens.

Er, sorry to point this out but Eva is referring to the socialising at refreshment breaks, after the matches etc, not during game-time as you are focussing on. By that logic something like playing on a rugby team isn't social because you're staying in your place in the formation and not talking to anyone, because you're discounting locker-room chats, after-match pints down the pub and so on.

With that example we are talking about (sorry ladies) genders with completely different physical capabilities and specialities, so it is only 'fair' to have them compete against their own gender (until the blokes get whomped at tennis, eh?). Given that there is no such inherent physical capability difference when you're sitting behind a monitor eating Cheetos, you're comparing apples with oranges there sadly.

Sports are split by gender because women and men have different levels of athletic capability (sorry, ladies). I don't really see a reason why gaming would require the same sort of separation.
