I've mistakenly left my GTA4 on the menu screen for over an hour and it wasn't even noticable after a period of time, so, yeah.
An hour isn't enough, but plasma screens are more susceptible to burn-in than LCDs and, unlike LCDs it won't always go away.
It's unlikely to happen unless you have regular 5 or 6 hour gaming sessions with the same game.

Oh, but I'd been playing it for a few hours before that point and as I say, I haven't experienced any issues. I'm honestly not sure if that's an earlier gen problem with regards to plasmas (their predilection to burn-in I mean).

I've already got a PS3 Scots. I don't think I need much more than 40". The 37" I played on was plenty big - after a certain size it seems a bit too much imo. I'm not sure I' like the idea of this burn in, especially as I am prone to the occasional mega-extended game session. Once every 6 months, but it happens.

I think it depends on how much of a black tone fanatic you are. There's a noticeable difference, but depending on the LCD and the plasma TV it isn't that huge - at least that was the case with my old plasma and new LCD TV.

Oh, if you're going smaller LCD all the way. I'll shut up now.

Is there a threshold size where plasma becomes better then Scots? Has anyone here tried the under 40" Sonys and the over 40" ones?

Susceptibility to image burn-in worse than CRT ever was, fuck yeah.
Not nowadays, the first plasmas yes.

I'm no guru, I honestly just went by my gut and picked the best one in the price range that I could afford but you can't even get plasma TVs below a certain size if I recall correctly.

Does anybody know if OLED's are going to hit the market at a reasonable price by anybody soon? I've been waiting and waiting and as far as I've seen the only places you can get them are on cell phones, the mac book air. and from sony where an 8 inch screen is $2K.
I haven't been paying attention to it lately, does anybody have any news?

The Macbook Air doesn't have an OLED screen, but an LED backlit screen.
Personally, I wouldn't expect them too soon, maybe popping up around late 2010 or early 2011 on new tablet PC forms. But this is just personal speculation, I'm not really following the subject closely. There's (
http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/apple-netbook-coming-with-oled-screen--581162) rumour about Apple going after some 10'' OLED screens, but it's just rumour so far, and then there's the Sony Vaio Flex concept that was (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXA9EyKCq_8) presented earlier this year, but it's still just a concept. I've gotta say that I was quite pleasantly impressed with that Vaio concept, though, I'd be quite anxious to see it hit the market within the next two years or so.
