Let's talk magic and magicians. - by SubJeff

Yeah. I'm a little disappointed it's not solely the power of suggestion, but I guess the easiest way to do it is going to be the way it gets done.

Well, you never know. Did you see the Jo Whiley stuff? That was pretty bonkers.

The other possibility, of course, is that Simon Pegg is in on it.

A Carny using a shill? Perish the thought.

Highly unlikely, isn't it?
Why on Earth would he do that? It suggests that he uses shills all the time and since he does a fair bit of celebrity tricks it would mean that a portion of them were in on it. And the damage to his rep if that got out? This alone is reason to think he'd never do this.

Maybe so. I just find it hard to believe that using bike-related phrases magically, subconsciously tricks someone into believing they wanted a bike.
My guess would be, like dem said, that the NLP stuff is the ruse, and that he actually just switched the note in his wallet and somehow forged the handwriting. All of the mystical stuff that happens after is enough to make Pegg suspicious and uneasy (he says that his hands are shaking), which prevents him from immediately saying "I didn't write that" when he sees the note.

WHy is that hard to believe? The human brain is susceptible to all kinds of shit. It's a deeply flawed piece of kit: (

If you read his books, there's a lot of very cogent explanation of how he designs the tricks. Bear in mind what words are - audio symbols which the brains converts into thoughts - by sending those symbols in certain ways, you can control the sequence of a person's thoughts and thus do all kinds of awesome shit. Just think of how poetry can evoke a range of responses and then transpose that principle to cognitive illusions.

If producers are involved, then they can get Pegg to write jacket somewhere earlier on for another purpose, which would help with the confusion because he might half remember it and recognize his writing, but if it were months earlier & a throw away thing, not exactly. But I could believe he just played Pegg so well he got him to buy it LS&B.
There are shows with more serious NLP and baiting. One I like is when they distract people and start switching other people around them, even who they're talkin to, or the entire set around them and they never notice. The mind will accept a lot if the evidence points that way, and it even programs what they "remember".

Brown does that too.
