level 2 [subway hostage] A non-violent solution. - by cyberfalcon77

I have been thinking for a while. There is supposed to be a non-violent solution for everything in Deus Ex but for some reason I cannot beat the subway mission in level two (the stealth way). Everytime I tell the hostages to make a run for the train they only stand there until all the terrorists are killed. Have any of you people found a solution.

Not sure what's happening in your game but it does work.
Talk with the hostages.
Open the doors to the subway car.
Leave with the hostages.
You might need to "stun" a few NSF dudes.
All nice and clean.

Not sure if you can do it 'Lytha style', but judicious use of the minicrossbow and riot prod can incapacitate all the NSF without killing any. Try using tranq darts from the airducts.

I crawled in the vents all the way to the grate nearest to hostages. The problem I had was that every time I talked to hostages, JC stood up, was seen by some NSF guy and all the hell broke loose. The solution was to take the TNT crate between me and the hostages and carry it in the vents. After removing the TNT I was able to hide behind the pillar and talk to hostages without being seen. This way I didn't have any interactions with the NSF.

CyberFalcon - I noticed that the hostages only made a move for the train when I opened the door and they were close to it. I don't remember if all of the NSF were knocked out or not when the hostages got on the train, but knowing my playing style, they were--I don't like to leave a scene without searching everyone for goodies.
Did you try using the EMP grenades? I did once and I felt it was a waste of a grenade, but all terrorists were knocked out at that time. I haven't tried using one while the terrorists are still running around--I fear the flamethrower , so I would still have to knock him out before trying anything else.

To be more precise I mean beating the objective without knocking anyone unconsious (or killing them) because the game registers that as a kill. That is a major problem in Deus Ex I could go and knock everyone on the map unconsious but then Paul would goes and says that you killed too many people today etc...

He never did that for me. I played Liberty Island and tranqed or zapped everyone, and he just said good job. I may be wrong, but doesn't he give you the riot prod?

That was one complaint I had against Deus Ex. For the most part, the game didn't distinguish between violent or non-violent approaches. Rather, it used triggers to figure that out irregardless of how violent you actually were. This is what also lead to the very confusing sequence involving Paul in his apartment in New York. (I won't say anymore since that would be a spoiler.)
When I went into Castle Clinton I tranqed everyone but because I went through the front entrance first it was considered a slaughter house despite the fact no one actually died.

I think you've got it wrong there; last time I played I prodded\darted everyone in sight and Paul said "good work." Another example is that punk threatening Sandra Renton (was that her surname? I forget. I mean the daughte rof the guy who owns the hotel). If you kill him, Manderley gives you a bollocking, but if you prod the punk, no problem.
What IS a pain though is when someone else on your side goes on a killing spree. For example, if you talk to Navarre at the entrance to Castle Clinton, she then starts blasting away at the NSF (you twat, says Carter). Also, back on Liberty Island, I was legging it from a bunch of NSF, who blundered their way in front of a Security Bot. It duly mowed them down, and Paul told me I was too violent...

Hmm.. I think that the scenarios vary as to how they determine how violent you've been. Castle Clinton does use triggers - tranq/prod everyone, then mosey out the front gates... and you're credited with slaughtering them all. On the other hand, I believe Liberty Isle just counts up how many are killed (ie: not tranq/prod'ed).
