At last! The technology can avoid that crutch!

Personally, I loouuvres TDS, but the loafing zones I certainly could do without!

Play Tomb Raider: Underworld, the engine of which we can safely assume they'll be using for Thief 4. The levels in that game are massive big. We're talking like GGGHHHH.
If we see loading zones in T4, then someone fucked up in a big bad way.

Inspired by a previous post elsewhere...we don't need no steenkin' loading zones, when each mission should be separated with a briefing and/or cutscene.:thumb:

I need to get this off my chest. I didn't like it.

No way, Building A, Warehouse Bay.
Loaded and ZoOned.

If they can't make a level without loadzones nowadays, it's wierd.
Here's my example.
I made a pretty rough remake of Baffords mansion and cragsleft for Oblivion.
I put them both in the same worldspace within walking distance of each other. And seeing as the Oblivion engine can cope with all that without loadzones, then newer game engines should easely be able to do the same.
I have no idea what the measurements of baffords mansion in the original thief game was,
but the ground floor alone of the version of bafford's mansion that I made for Oblivion,
is roughly 77,5 x 57,5 meters = 4,4 squarekilometers.
Add the other floors on top of that, and we're talking about a fairly huge structure.
-and we're talking no loadzones.
No loadzones :cheeky:, you can walk from the depths of Cragsleft mines, through the city streets, to the basement in baffords house. All in one go, loadzones bye bye.
So hopefully the devs will make huge levels for T4 without adding loadzones.:thumb:

If modern consoles are able to handle Fallout 3's massive world without visible loading outside (using background loading and a paging system), I would not be too worried about this - it's entirely possible to do big levels today, thankfully :)

You did play Fallout 3 though didn't you? Where the game loads whenever you use a door?
