Ok, first off, the post has nothing to do with Locke Lamora vs. Garrett, although that little bout would be interesting to see. Sorry if I was misleading, but I thought it would make a nice title since the post has to do with a little bit of both. I did a search and last year someone had already posted something about the Lies of Locke Lamora, a book by Scott Lynch, but since I say "No to Necromancy" I avoided having to do anything with it.
Ok, with that out of the way....
Has anyone read the book The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch? I just finished it a day ago and it reminded me alot of the Thief universe. First, it's about thieves trying to survive in a hostile city by any means possible. Second, the city has an underground crime boss who controls most of the city's gangs beneath him. My memory is a little hazy, but I think Thief had a crime boss in it who did the same thing didn't it? Third, the city is divided up into districts, each with distinct and unique names. Fourth, there is a somewhat basic magic system based on Alchemy. And fifth but not least, the people who built the city, an ancient race who came before the current rulers, left behind artifacts and well, the city itself. The book displays the writers "newness", if you want to call it that, but regardless he is a good author and the story is quite entertaining. For those of you who just can't get enough of the thief universe, and anything related to it, this book is a must buy.

Haha. Interesting. I'd like to hear from others about the story.
Terry Pratchett came to mind, too. Not because of his storylines, but because I heard he's a Thief fan.

Mr. Pratchett a Thief fan? Now, I haven't heard that but that's great. I'm a big fan of his novels. Thief could easily take place in Ahnk Morpork, well, without all of the comedic stuff anyway.
