So I'm trying to place a rope object, but it's kinda weird. In-game, it's hovering a foot or two down from where I placed it, and it's about 3x as long as it appears in dromed. I can place it higher, but it's still not long enough for my needs (made a deep well)
Is there anyway to alter the size of the rope (it kept jumping back to "8"), or do I need to make a smaller well?

click on the rope's properties, physics -> misc -> rope and change the desired length to whatever length you want. I believe the rope actually begins at the center of the rope object so make sure your rope object's center is placed just below solid terrain. If the rope's center is inside solid space it will not appear in the game.
