Yep, I bought that based on their recommendation as well. It's an interesting concept but not particularly fun after a while. I've had a few goes at it now thinking perhaps it will pick up later but it just doesn't hold my attention.

B-B-B-BONUSGAME: ROAD REDEMPTION!I made a video for this one. And you know when a man makes a video for a videogame, that's true love.

I picked this up in a sale last year when it was still in Early Access. I played a few races back then but it didn't really grab me. Sure, it was chaotic and actionpacked, but something important was missing: meaning, consequence. Luckily, that's exactly what the campaign mode has added. Every injury suffered has consequences now, as it means things'll be tougher later on in the game, and every victory has meaning. You have to pick and choose your battles. When you roll up on a crew of enemy bikers you have to form a plan, and then quickly throw that plan out the window and improvise when things go haywire. Campaign-structure-wise, it's very similar to Caveblazers actually. They're both permadeath campaigns where you get a chance to level up your character at the end of a failed run, to make later runs more manageable. But whereas Caveblazers gameplay is some boring platformy nonsense, Road Redemption is the most bad-ass over-the-top thing I've played all year! (well, perhaps aside from Robo Recall) It's so chaotic it's hard to believe it plays as well as it does.

OxenfreeAdventury thing that's light on the puzzling and heavy on story. It's about a bunch of kids who go to a spooky island to hang out and then spooky stuff happens. The story hasn't really pulled me in yet, but I'll keep going for a bit and see what happens.
I've caught bits and pieces of a LP of it, and it seemed to me that the game relies on the player connecting with the characters. Also it seemed to get really messed up/weird towards the end.

13) Victor VranInline Image:

You're a demon hunter called Victor Vran and you're on a mission to save an imaginary Eastern European city from vampires and other nasty creatures. There's nothing unique or very special about this game; it feels very average in just about every way possible, but still it's been holding my interest for a while! I suppose that the biggest "standout feature" in Victor Vran is that you can
jump and dodge attacks! There's not as much random button-mashing as there is in your average ARPG either. Each weapon only has three different skills, and you can wield two weapons at the same time. In addition to those you can have two spells and two artifacts in your skill bar, so the skill selection is rather limited... but I kinda liked it that way, it made me experiment with different builds which was fun. Too bad the rest of the game follows the traditional ARPG formula.
FATE: Gonna finish this one to see how the "story" ends (unless it drags on and on for too long), and then uninstall it for good.
14) The Warlock of Firetop MountainInline Image:
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/876374179351169431/59591C88875F9702FF0AE07DFB84FCFBEDA06ED1/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|1024:576&composite-to%3D%2A%2C%2A%7C1024%3A576&background-color=blackYou know those adventure gamebooks that used to be popular a few decades ago?
"If you wish to fight the dragon, turn to page 128. Try to escape - go to page 169." That sort of thing. Well, this game here is like those books, but on computer with some decent graphics. I don't have much experience with any kind of adventure gamebooks, but I believe that The Warlock of Firetop Mountain was a part of some rather popular series, and I also have a feeling that this game is at least
trying to be quite faithful to the original. And that's probably not a good thing. There's a lot of potential here; the beginning of the adventure seems exciting and there are a lot of different paths to choose from, but then come the bullshit instadeath traps that ruin the whole thing.
"You see a big wooden door in front of you, with two levers next to it on the wall. Do you want to pull the lever on the left, or the one on the right?" Hmm let's see... I'm gonna have to guess... I'll choose the left one.
"A trapdoor opens under you and you fall into the darkness... You're dead!" What? :weird: It took me a little more than two hours to finish the adventure, and the latter half of it was full of extremely frustrating traps that made no sense at all. The written dialogue is good enough but the story itself is very childish - probably originally meant for kids? Too bad there's too much text and not enough action for kids these days. :p
FATE: Uninstall.
15) SpintiresThis game needs no introduction as henke has surely talked about it more than enough. :D Despite of that I still didn't know what to
really expect from Spintires. The idea of driving a big truck on some muddy path in the middle of nowhere sounds boring as hell, but I was actually pleasantly surprised!
Fun isn't the best word to describe Spintires, I'd say that it's a strange combination of
relaxing and
exciting. The game looks surprisingly beautiful and it's indeed quite relaxing to just drive around admiring the view, but it does make me feel a bit nervous when my vehicle is sinking slowly in the mud and in danger of getting stuck. I also haven't really figured out yet what I'm actually supposed to do in Spintires. There are some mysterious things that I can load into my truck in the garage, and apparently I'm supposed to carry some cargo somewhere, but I don't know what that would be and where I should go.
This is how my first drive in Spintires ended. My jeep was all muddy, and I thought that I would save some time
and get a free car wash if I crossed the river...

FATE: Definitely keeping this for now. It was entertaining enough to just drive around, so once I figure out the main idea of the game, it could potentially even be fun!

The "instadeaths" were a frequent staple of quite a few of the F2F games. While the best ones had less of them, I didn't mind them as much as it meant that I could keep playing them for longer. There were no steam-like sales back then and my pocket money only went so far.
Having meaningless Instadeaths on a video game doesn't sound particularly fun.

Unless the game has a visual simulation of your fingers holding the spot on the previous page so that you can turn back and take the other path instead :)
(Which makes me think of what "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" did with its "No no, that's not what happened..." rewinding.)

And in the case of the actual physical books you could always cheat (as I often did) and just turn back to the section and "choose" the other option.
