You have to
pickpocket the key from a thief who walks by near there, but if you miss him he's gone and you won't be able to open it

There are a few things you have to do before you can find that thief.
At first, you have to find a hidden keeper medaillon in the
first misson (where Garrett ventured into a fortress). It is hidden in
the fortress' library. To be more specific, you have to
use a lever located on one of the bookshelves. It opens a secret door or room in the library. You should find the medaillon in there. Then, meet Larius in order to get a letter from him.
If you did not get that letter in the first mission, you cannot meet the thief in the second mission and will never be able to open the mountain door.
If you obtained the letter in the first mission, you must deliver it in the second mission. The recipient
is someone named Kafee in German, maybe it's something like "Coffee" in English. This guy lives in
one of the buildings in the town in the second mission; you can identify it by
looking for a coffin-shaped mail box to the right of the building's door. Deliver the letter (and maybe wait a minute until the recipient reacts) in order to get a new mission objective:
Look for Kafees lost family heirloom.Unfortunately, you are not told
where to look for it, but only that you can find some information about the thing in a hideout of some bandits or thieves. You're not told where this hideout is either.
You can find it when walking from the town to a lake with some ruins on the shore. You will pass a group of buildings located in a deep valley beside the path. Look for a
cave entrance nearby; the cave provides your passage to the buildings below. Search the buildings to find information about the
heirloom you're looking for. It's a letter signed by someone named Sargon.
Take this letter back to Kafee. He will tell you something, mentioning a hidden cache near a canyon. This is the one with the hidden mountain door. Now, you can go there and wait for the thief with the key. He should arrive there within a few minutes. Get that key by pickpocketing or with brute force, then open the mountain door to plunder the cache. You will finally find the object you came for among the loot. It's a
necklace. Bring it back to Kafee.
It may be a bit difficult to actually give the thing back to Kafee. I had to wait exactly in the doorway for him, and had to select the
necklace in my inventory first. After about ten to thirty seconds, Kafee suddenly reacted. I don't know whether he took the
necklace on his own or whether I had to use it from my inventory.
