For the life of me, I can't remember the name of this game I liked some years back!
I think it came out around the time of Sacrifice and Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Anyway, in this game, you played 3 different aliens, each having different skills. You had to use each one to get past obstacles, since each one had different skills. I remember one of them was able to smash through barricades. I remember something special about the way you could upgrade each alien's skills, and I remember that it had an awesome intro sequence of this thing heading towards a planet. (I think it was some alien egg)

Does sound familiar, I do remember playing something that was sorta like Lost Vikings, but in 3D, at that time. Evolva? That one had aliens... not sure about the other stuff.
Or that thing from Eidos? Project Eden? That one had human characters but otherwise it fits.
Yeah I don't know.

Sounds a bit like Evolva, but there you have 4 critters and you can equip them with the same skills if you want to (though that may not be efficient). But yes, Evolva did have some planet destroying egg heading towards a planet.
