Looking for a mission... - by Gerhard Eichberger

There was once a thread where people asked for the name of a mission they have once played. However this thread was no more found by the search function, so I start a new one here.
Well, a long time ago I have played a mission where there was a bibliohek. There was a secret door. When I opened it there was a man coming from inside bringing a lantern and putting it on the floor, then he went away (or the like). The sector after the door was a zone where it's completely dark. I didn't see anything, even with the light in my hand. I had to throw the lantern, so it lit a few meters about it. There was only a small way with many edges. Besides the way I fell to death. It was a type of labyrinth, completely dark. I had to drop the lantern, go some steps, (save the game,) drop the lantern again, walk some steps, (save again), take the lantern, and so on. When it happened that the lantern fell down besides the small way, then it was lost and I too.
I would like to replay this mission again, but I don't remember its name.
Can you help me? What mission was it?

It's Profane Ascension by Tomi, I think.
btw you were supposed to follow the lantern guy to ensure safety as far as I remember xd

I don't think it's Profane Ascension. I don't remember a dark labyrinth where you could fall to your death. Though in Profane Ascension there is a room in the tombs with a small wooden walkway above a pit, and a hallway with a black hole where you drop to your death, but it isn't ever completely dark there, and I don't think you ever carry a lantern.

Perhaps "The Librarian", by Nightshifter???
Although I wonder now .....

I'm so bad in remembering names .....

i played the mission he is talking about, but i have no clue of the name,it was a maze on thin ledges in the air,and you had to use the lantern to find the way out,it only lit up the railing you were walking on at a crouch, pretty sure it had haunts in it and was a pretty tricky fan mission, for some reason i want to say it was a thief 1 fan mission as the lantern was the octagon style

Thank you for your suggestions.
Well, I tried these missions out...
It's definitely not "The Librarian" - there's nowhere a part where I have to carry a lantern - there are only some flares.
And it doesn't seem to be "Deadly Darkness" resp. "Profane Ascension". In these two missions there is a ghost with a lantern in the kitchen going down where it is dark and inside then there is another ghost with a lantern, but they don't drop their lanterns. However there it's not completely dark and I can follow the ghosts with the lantern. (Actually I wasn't in the catacombs and cathedral - although I tried it in DromEd, "Profane Ascension" is not a simple mission...)
Well, maybe it was "Invitation to Castle Morgoth". This is a mission for Thief Gold. Actually I have a problem in playing Thief-Gold-missions. In earlier times I had the Thief Gold patch installed when I had Windows 98SE and Windows 2000. But since some years (maybe since I have upgraded to Windows XP) the Thief Gold patch does no more function correct. I could never fix this. When I install the patch, then Dark Project crashes at starting. So I can only play thief Gold missions without the patch. This however means that many Thief-Gold-missions are actually unplayable for me - so too "Invitation to Castle Morgoth": There should be a door near the start, but it is a black wall when played with Thief 1 without the Thief Gold patch and cannot be opened.
So I tried to play "Invitation to Castle Morgoth" with DromEd for Thief 1. There many parts function correct but not all parts.
So I'm not sure if the mission I'm looking for is really "Invitation to Castle Morgoth". I am not sure if the mission I'm looking for is for Thief 1, Thief Gold or Thief 2.
As I mentioned there was a library where a door (maybe a secret door) had to be opened. Then a servant with a lantern is coming out from inside putting the lantern on the ground, and then he disappeared suddenly. The labyrinth was absoulutely dark, also when I carried the lantern. I had to drop the lantern. Then I saw a few meters from the labyrinth that contains of very small ledges (or how this is called in English) where I simply could fall to death. Then I walked two or three steps, grabbed the lantern again (then it was absolutely dark again) and had to drop the lantern a few meters forward so that I saw another piece of the labyrinth. When I threw the lantern badly it was falling down and was lost (and surley I too). If I remember correct there were two exits out of the labyrinth besides the entrance through the library. I can't remember if there were undeads around, but I believe not. In the labyrinth there was nobody. There were definately no flares in the mission. I'm not sure if there were fire arrows.
So could it be "Invitation to Castle Morgoth"? Or is there another mission containing such a part?

Castle Morgoth really is the only mission I played that contained such an area. Profane Ascension/Deadly Darkness doesn't have small ledges, or makes AI drop the lantern. Sorry to hear you can't play it correctly, it is one of my favorite T1 missions. :erg:

I can say for certain it's not a mission I've played, and for what that's worth, that's over four hundred missions. I can only say what missions it is not. I have to concur with PotatoGuy though, that Invitation to Castle Morgoth seems the likely answer. It has the pitch-black labrynth and the lantern that you can pick up. I can't play the Thief 1 missions either, so I can't confirm it any more than that.
