Hey everyone!
I've been experimenting with item stacking lately and I've been looking around for various engine exploits.
A: Is there a list somewhere, a guide perhaps to things like frog jumping, item stacking, etc.
B: Is there a way to clip into walls?
C: Is there a way to get through small windows?
Cheers!

1. For item stacking, Luthien's (
http://dominikvogt.gmxhome.de/guides/staircase.txt) staircase manual is a good place to start. Then there is his (
http://dominikvogt.gmxhome.de/guides/flare_elevatoring.txt) guide to elevatoring which I found really useful. Here's the (
www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58501) forum thread for that. And here's his guide to (
http://dominikvogt.gmxhome.de/guides/keyholing.txt) keyholing, just for fun.
Then there is Luthien's (
http://dominikvogt.gmxhome.de/guides/movement_skills.txt) movement skills guide, which he subtitles "A guide to jumping, climbing, falling and much more in Thief: The Dark Project, Thief Gold, and Thief: The Metal Age."
2. Don't know about this.
3. The easiest way I know is to get right up against them and below the bottom a bit. Then just mantle up through them. Some are just too small for it to work, but many look too small but will actually allow it.
Also do a search for AZAL's many "strange and unusual" threads. It could take awhile to read through those, but not only will you discover a lot of things, you'll get a nice slice of TTLG history.

There's just one thing I'd like to be clear on, though I should be ashamed to ask after all these years.
When the sound bar in the light gem indicates I am making too much noise, of course it means I can be heard, but am I in fact being "heard" by AI somewhere in the mission?

Sound bar?

There is no sound bar.

You guys are right. I have been laboring under a false impression for 15 years! DUH!

No, that tells you when you are partially visible (yellow) and completely visible (red). You can test this yourself. Go stand in a completely dark place and jump up and down. That bar won't change color. The go stand in complete light and do not move. That bar will be red.
Think of that colored bar as representing three categories: 1. If it's dark, you should be not visible. 2. If it's yellow, you are probably safe if you stay still and AI don't get too close, but if you move with it yellow you're more likely to be seen. 3. If it's red, you are completely visible, even when stationary. The light gem itself gives a gradated indication of how visible you are within each category.
Edit: You edited your post while I was typing.

Sorry about that...thanks for taking the time. When I found a pic of the light gem, it was on the Thief Wiki, where I was set straight.

No worries. Now you know the real deal. Plenty of us have operated under misconceptions for years as well. There's even a thread about that around here somewhere.
