Looking for good 1st or 3rd person action adventure games. - by Brian T

I've got a pretty wide variety of games in my collection now, eveything from flight and racing sims to RPG games to isometric strategy games. I think my current preference these days is for what might be called "action adventure" games like Thief (naturally), Tomb Raider, Drakan etc. Recently I completed American McGee's Alice which despite the off putting title I thought was really good. I don't really consider deathmatch games like Quake III or Unreal Tournament as action adventure though.
I can't say I prefer 1st to 3rd person viewpoint. However my PC is pretty old by today's standards, (Pentium III 1.3 Ghz, NVidia Geforce 2) which means that I won't be able to proplerly run any games after about 2002- or so.
I've been looking at Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Soul Reaver. Any thoughts on whteher these are worth getting?

MDK2 is pretty good, and a bit different.
For less action and more adventure, try Beyond Good & Evil.
I'm playing it through for the second time now and enjoying every minute.

You could always try a patched version of the rather excellent action-rpg Arx Fatalis.

Great suggestion Twisty, currently I play Arx for the second time... I spent much time tweaking it and it still contains some graphical errors, running it on my new computer. But it's worth it. Beautiful complex world and storyline, I think this game should be on the list of the most underrated games of past few years.

Well you system isn't that bad, EXCEPT for the video card, take a look on New Egg or Buy.com(both are super cheap), you can get yourself a ATI X700 or maybe? an X800 AGP 256mb card for about 150(I just got an X700 from Crucial thats fantastic but costs a little more because it isn't a "no Name" card. I didn't like Wolf that much wasn't bad but not much of a story. Take a look at Jade Empire, KOTOR 1-2, Manhunt is great(but hard), and don't forget all the cheap RPG's available, Icewind Dale 1-2, Neverwinters Night, Dungeon Siege ect.

I've been looking at Return To Castle Wolfenstein
RtcW was fun, but nothing special.
And now...Introducing the GRANDIOZA ESPLANDOZA Henke's 2000-2002 top 11 action/action adventure-game (in more or less this order) recs list, yo:1. Deus Ex
2. GTA3
3. Oni - probably the best 1-player beat em up I've played(4 times)
4. NoOne Lives Forever
5. Mafia
6. Hitman: Codename 47
7. Max Payne
8. Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
9. Giants: Citizen Kabuto
10. Serious Sam
11. Rune - the underworld/hell levels drag on but add a sense of epicness to the story.
(Thief 2 omitted, coz you already know about it. RtcW too.)
And once you upgrade your computer, defenitely check out Beyond Good & Evil.
