Anyone have a problem using Esc to bring the game menu up? It was okay in the beginning but getting worse as I play. Also, I can't get some of the books and letters open to read. I have Madam Kira's diary but it won't open. Is there anything of importance in it? I have no problem opening doors etc, just writings. The letter to Leon talks of a painting in Elly's room that can be substituted for the one in the lodge. Is this at Madam Kira's. I searched the place but didn't find a painting I could take.

The painting you need is at Lord Bufford's hunting lodge. (I think there's a couple hunting lodges...Bufford's & Ashton's). It should be in the main room just hanging on the wall.
To get to Bufford's, you need to go through a hidden tunnel behind some hanging vines nearby a pagan standing by a campfire.
As to the other questions, I'm not sure...Sometimes it takes a bit longer for the menu to come up when hitting ESC, but that's all I've ever encountered.

The letter said that there was a copy of the painting that could be hung in place of the valuable painting to throw the owner off. It was supposed to be in Elly's room. Is that in the lodge or at Madam Kira's?

I don't remember having to actually swap paintings- just stealing the one at the lodge. There's a walkthrough for the mission at thiefmissions.com if you DO have to swap paintings. I just can't remember doing that. Sorry.

Thanks, I'll just swipe it without the swap then.

Daisy: When your computer seems to slow down more and more, it may be a good idea to clear some of the scraps that accumulate. You may be stunned when you see how it speeds up when you install your originals in Darkloader from time to time. :wot:

In one of the hunting lodges, (Lord Ashtons I think) there is a stringed instrument.. You can use it and it plays about 30 seconds of music. The music itself, I belive, is lute music, and you know i liked that short sample so much that I asked for a CD of lute music for Christmas! The question is, does anyone know the composer of the music in A Night's Stroll? There is a small music sample in Thief 2 but I can't recall exactly if it's the same as used in A Night's Stroll. I'm not sure if the creator of A Night's Stroll is still around here. Hope somene can help. *plays air lute*

I don't know who did the sounds for this, Schwaa created the custom object (lute) and included the wav-file. You should ask him :)

Wouldn't swear to it but I believe it's by John Dowland, Sixteenth Century? English composer. He wrote a lot of stuff for thr the lute, and I sure I've heard one of his compositions in FMs, even if it's not this one.

The second mission - A night stroll. I jumped into the well and I have no idea how to get my ass out of this place. I swear that there is a secret passage here, however, I can't find it. The author is going to annoy all of us with these secret entrances everywhere... however, the campain is very interesting so it's worth playing it. Please, help me
