Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have had thief 1,2 and 3 for a while now and have just started playing the 1st one. Great game flows lovely on my PC. I am stuck though. Have come to the lost city and worked out how to get in. I am in the caves under the river and finding it almost impossible to jump up on to the ledge before plumetting down the waterfall. I have given up on that one after spending hours trying to no avail. Grrr! I am now on a ledge; below the waterfall; trying to jump up a different way but alas can't seem to jump off the 5th ledge to the next one. Grrr! I am getting quite frustrated now for I have come this far and don't want to quit cos' of a stupid jump! Really want to progress and get on to the next level and the next game.
Any help will be appreciated.

Nicademus.

I take it you haven't discovered lean-mantling yet.

Are you talking about mantling from the fast flowing stream onto the ledge where there's a bunch of spiders?
If so, I've never had to "lean-mantle" in my life, I just swam to the edge, kept whichever key was guiding me into the ledge pressed down and then mantled.

When I first got to this part in the game, I had to reload at least 2 or 3 times to get it right, but yes. When heading toward that part I kept to the right side of the river and as soon as I got to the ledge I faced it and held Space Bar down and mantled up.
I think dear 'ol Zylon thought you were refering to another section?

When I'm trying to mantle a ledge & keep falling off backwards I just keep pressing the 'lean' key so that I'm leaning towards the building/wall as I make it to the top of the ledge. Same thing when I'm creeping along a ledge & come to a sharp corner; sometimes if you don't keep leaning in toward the wall you'll just slip off the ledge as you try to round the corner.
Is that what you mean, ZB?
(edit) Just read GMD's post. Sorry; guess I was thinking of another section myself.

I'm not really sure what the problem is. While floating down the river (before the waterfall) you should easily be able to climb onto the ledge on the right side. You will find the small spiders there and can just jump across the river to the path that will ultimately lead you to the LC.
Assuming the way to get out of the pool at the bottom of the waterfall didn't change in Thief Gold, and that we're both counting correctly, on the fifth ledge you move to the left (facing wall) and mantle up to the sixth. The ledge directly above the fifth ledge is too narrow to climb upon.
Even if Thief Gold is different, I don't remember falling into the pool as anything more than a minor inconvenience in the original (provided you can look around and see which ledges are low enough to mantle).
If this is the most trouble you have with the lost city, I applaud you... although I thought it was much easier in Thief Gold (which was disappointing).

Hmm... your explaination suggests our keyboards are more different than I was led to believe.

:weird:
Please tell me you're being intentionally dense.
