In the Gold version of The Lost City, when Garrett says "Creepy" Cthulhu statue is standing right in front of him.
Winged humanoid with an octopus' head.
Are there any more lovecraft references in the game?

I can't remember if there are anymore direct references.
I'm not up on my H.P. Lovecraft. I know there are old threads that discuss this, so a search might yield better answers from the Lovecraft geeks.:p

This is probably as obvious as it gets but if I don't mention it now I'll just mention it at another point.
It is really, really worth checking out the game (
http://www.callofcthulhu.com/) Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the earth. It's a fantastic game underneath the bugs, and feels as experimental in many ways as the first Thief game did. There's some sneaking, some puzzle solving and some shooty elements. It's pretty schizophrenic, but that's part of its charms. Also, there's a level that will make the toughest man jump and scream like a little girl. Or that was just me. But anyone who has played it will probably know what level I'm thinking about.

There's one more, also in the Lost City. Where a certain temple is alluded to, and a certain deity is kind of namedropped.
Jay, you'll find it in m9rain.str. ;)
On the topic of Dark Corners... It's good. Really. I watched a friend play it on Xbox together with another friend. And while I've been known to freak out on occasion, none of the two are wusses by any stretch.
I should mention that it was three in the morning, all curtains were shut, we'd all drunk generous amounts of whiskey, and we had a projector and surround sound.
And we all screamed in unison.
Good times. :)

Ah! Thanks, Larris, I didn't know that name was from Lovecraft.:) Is the spelling the same?

That whole level is very Lovecraftian to me, as well as Bonehoard.
In a roundabout way, listening to the death metal band Morbid Angel puts me in a Thief mood - they are very Necronomicon/Lovecraft/Sumerian inspired.

No, it's in fact "N
yarla
thotep" originally, but it's clear enough, really.
Neil_McCauley: I'm pressed for time right now, else I'd have commented further upon your Morbid Angel comment. (Lovecraft actually shows very little and indirect inspiration from Sumerian mythology. I suppose you must be thinking of the Simon Necronomicon. Try Nile instead. ;) )
