I could use some suggestions for games which I can play online with my GF. Until now, we've been having great fun playing things like connect 4, chess etc.. to the extent that it's become a regular part of our daily skype sessions, but I think now it might be nice to try something a bit more involved. She only has a low spec laptop, so it can't be anything too demanding. Something on Steam would be good as I can just gift it to her.
Any suggestions?

DEFCON?
Although maybe nuking your beloved is not what you had in mind. It's better with 4, anyway.

henke and I were just talking about the more cerebral sort of co-op experience, and I think it's safe to say Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light / Portal 2 are what you want to play because they're not bland, actiony fare and require actual co-operation.
Trine 2's been a hoot as well, but it needs 3 people to make it really come alive. And probably an ace dancer like Jeshibu. And can he dance. :D

Anything which requires demanding 3d acceleration is kind of out. I'm hoping for something sprite based ideally, and with as few spacial dimensions as possible given that my lady's not a gamer per se.
Might give DEFCON a look see.

Just buy your girlfriend something better than that P3 she's on.

Diablo 2? I'd think any recently made computer can run it by now.

Something a bit more strategy and less action might be best. I'd love to buy her a new puter, but I won't have the means for the foreseeable.

Terraria?
Me and Sulph couldn't seem to connect and get a game going but if you figure out the IP and port stuff and whatnot I guess it might be a good one for you and the gf. You can BUILD a house and then PLAY house!

English is her third language and she's not the most tech savvy, so anything without an easy way of connecting games is likely to be more trouble than it's worth, but I do like me some Terreria, so I may still consider it an option if I can find a nice easy guide for going 2 player in a forum somewhere.
I'm thinking Frozen Synapse might not actually be a bad call.

It's a shame the version of Dungeon Siege on Steam has got multiplayer disabled. The multiplayer world in that was completely different from the single player one and had some awesome explorable areas. Still, if you can find it somewhere else, that's definitely worth playing.
