Bigger immersion? Nonsense. Games today with narrow-ass FoVs are designed for people playing on consoles, sitting a few metres away from their TV.

I agree with Eva. WTF is Koki smoking again?

I wonder how many people complaining about FOV have 16:10 and 16:9 monitors. I'm on 5:4 and I can get used to pretty much anything. It would make sense that with a wider "window" you'd want more FOV.
But that raises a question why old games had FOV of 90, back when everyone had 4:3 monitors?

It's a trollbait thread argument to laugh at later, isn't it obvious?
See, when you lower your FoV, everything's all closer like and rubbing up your screen in much more intimate a fashion, so the deeper you feel you're in the game and

Console FPSes had narrow FoVs dating back to at least the Xbox 1 days (eg Halo 1 & 2), so most games still would've been designed for 4:3 SDTVs. So console games shifting to 16:9 by standard with the cuurent gen HD consoles had no effect, it all has to with distance from the screen.

The low FOV (and how shitty the body awareness was with the FOV hack) is probably the biggest reason I only made it 10 or so hours into Metro 2033. I don't require an enormous FOV, but tunnel vision is horrible.

For the record, you can (
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/935068-metro-2033/53962903) edit the FOV in Metro. Though at ten hours in I doubt you were very far from the end, I don't remember it being a very long game.

Tunnel vision FOV just means not being able to tell what's going on.

I like my FOV at about 105 on a 16:9 monitor. I really can't stand games with low FOV, to the extent that I still haven't played more than the first five minutes of Call of Jaurez 2, since there's no FOV hack for it.

Hey Koki where is the article you based this thread on? The one with the picture from Lost Coast. I skimmed over it recently too and would like to read it in it's entirety but I can't remember where I saw it(though I'm guessing RPS Sunday Papers, Killscreen, or Wired).
edit: nevermind, (
http://designreboot.blogspot.com/2009/03/refrigerator-box.html) found it.
