Is MTG: DotP restricted? Absolutely. No real deck building, etc.
But the thing is, it's $10, less if you get it on a Steam sale. There is no way Wizards would cannibalize their ridiculously ovepriced-yet-lucrative MTG: Online system with full deck-building, so this is what we get. It's a casual game, not a real substitute for Magic.
But actual Magic is very, very expensive, and this is cheap fun. I really enjoyed last year's release, and 2012 significantly improved it: namely, all the decks are more-or-less balanced, and you can now remove the base cards rather than just adding a sideboard. It's a better game of solitaire, and online play is surprisingly fun. Yeah, it's too bad we can't get a proper Magic adventure game ala the 1998 version, but for the price this isn't a bad deal.
Incidentally, I tried the 1998 version recently: seemed pretty fun, but man oh man is the interface dated.

three days for someone else that plays it to show up in the thread lol... x_x
yeah they definitely balanced the decks out. although that came at a huge price imo on the blue deck. the solid blue and blue/white in the old game were insanely powerful. the new blue deck is so anemic that the simple addition of 2 more bounce cards increased its viability noticeably.
the new vampire deck is very nicely toned down compared to the last game. the new auramancer deck though, green/white, is a very strong contender. id probably say its the fastest deck in the game right now. kinda tough to beat.
which deck do you play most?

I only just started playing (it was gifted to me by an old TTLGer, NavyHacker006) and probably won't pick up the expansion till the inevitably Steam sale.
I like big creature decks with a twist - Eons of Evil was my fav deck last time around, and Ancient Depths is my preferred deck this time. I just beat Karn on the Revenge Campaign on the first try: it was insane. He played his Darksteel Colossus using the Quicksilver amulet, I played Aether Mutation and got 11 Sproutlings. He played the crazy worm card that's 6/6 with lifelink and such, I played Rite of Meditation Kicked and got five of them.

lol... nice. yeah karn getting a 2nd or 3rd turn colossus every time is a bit annoying. the new decks are interesting for sure but it seems like some of the cards they added to the old decks are alone more interesting than an entirely new deck. been playing quite a bit recently so im done for a while.
