What I mean is, that the Dark Engine has been licensed as open source for free for years now and if people want to use it they can use it for future games as they wish without paying any royalties. Is there a way to make Mission X work with the Lost Alpha modified Thief 2 demo by voodoo? It would make the mission a standalone game that could be distributed around the internet for free. The mission itself is fairly long so it could be considered as if it were a "short" game like Metroid Confrontation which also had similar goals.

I don't believe the Dark Engine is open source since nobody knows what happened to the source code.
And since it's still being sold it isn't abandonware either.
Heck we still don't know who that Raven chap was either.

yes, you could do that, and as long as you only use resources that already are included with the demo and/or free 3rdparty content, it would be legal as well (in countries with sane copyright laws, anyway). I'm guessing it would require quite a bit of work though.

Great. Well I'll see if it's compatible or not with the Thief 2 demo. I'm leaning to yes but who the hell knows. It would be cool to see it standalone though, that mission alone is sometimes an entire game. Even Ubisoft's own I Am Alive is shorter than Mission X.

You contribute nothing to these forums and should feel bad (and/or be banned, preferably both). :thumb:
@Gabriel Loup - What exactly is your motivation for doing this? There are dozens and dozens of great Thief FM's out there besides Mission X, and you can get Thief 2 for less than ten dollars on Steam.

I'd guess quick and legal distribution (download and play), no matter whether the potential player has the orig game or not. might not be such a terrible idea, especially in countries where a regular kid does not have an easy way of buying the game online - I remember that I had to go through quite a few hoops and loops to acquire a fully working paypal account when worldwide online payments were a new thing over here (it's super easy now, but that was not the case back then).

How come mission X?
It's different, I'll give you that but it doesn't feel like a thief mission to me. I feel like I'm playing a different game, one i don't like as much. "Gathering at the Inn"; now thats a mission! Is mission X really the fan favorite around here?

Mission X is a famous mission here, mostly for its ambitious attempts at creating a huge, complicated heist in a large, grandiose hotel in the Dark Engine. However, this high ambition also led to several blunders, and as such it did receive quite a bit of criticism from people here after it was released. Check the Mission X thread to see some criticisms of it.

I'm sure that for me it's a matter of taste for me. I'm a fan of "working alone" and not being someones puppet.
I'd love to see some reviews but the thread seems to be a sea of debugging, hints and congratulatory comments.
I've been searching for a thief mission reviewer that would share my taste and ease my search for good missions.
