Hammerites and Mechanists wouldn't use it because it's a corruption of Trickster.
So basically, the verb "to taff" is derived from the noun "taffer" and not the other way round? Interesting...

Actually thinking about it, the actual guard line is "Hey, is someone taffin' about?" which would suggest to me "messing about", and synonymously "fucking about", although it's a bit over-rude for that situation unless the guard is reaching the end of his tether with other people taffing about earlier in the evening!
I think some guard says "Who's noising about then"....I am sure this is what "Whos taffing around down here",also means....
They are guards and investigate strange noises and guard stuff....thats all.just think it means making a racket/noise.I dont think it means fucking around at all.

Different things. Who's horsing around, who's screwing around, who's messing about, who's noising about, who's f-ing around, who's mucking about, who's taffing around/about, who's dicking around, who's traipsing about, who's skulking, who's lurking, who's hiding, who's intruding, who's thieving, who's making all that racket!!;)
And I'll reiterate that MOST of the time--not all, not 99%, not 95%, not 80%, not whatever the assumption is--it's the F-word when it's not specific to thieving criminals.

"The Plumsietaker iss here!! Find himm!
:O One of my favorite conversations!
I think it goes
"Seesies yous mine plumsies?
Mmm, them plumsies mine.
Plumsie taker, gimme them backsies!
I eaters them, plumsies all gone.
Noooo!"
jtr7 on 4/6/2009 at 21:06
Of course, that one was literal. The second apebeast ate the first ones plumsies.
TheGrimSmile on 4/6/2009 at 22:01
Perhaps taking others' plums is a... normal thing for apemen?
It could work...
Anyway, what is a good noble word?
"Don't touch me, you rabbleous filth!"
I don;t thing "rabbleous" is a word, but "rabble" is, so... :erm:
Can someone please explain to me exactly how "taffer" is derived from "the trickster"? I can see the "T", but that's about it.
The closest thing I can come up with just by playing around with "trickster" is something like "TricK" or... "Trisser"
jtr7 on 4/6/2009 at 22:28
Oh, those prankster apebeasts and their capture the plumsies games!:p
Anything evil is attributed to the Devil/Trickster, and taffers are considered evil scum, or scummy evil.
Also... "The paths of thief [taffer!] and god [Trickster] are worn as one in the earth".

Yeah. Definitely gonna see a flash of light getting kicked in the nards, before wishing he was blackjacked and put outta his misery.
