Im only going to say this once, wdog. Leave it alone. This "silence", as it is being called, is quite possibly the best thing that could happen to a Thief title right now. Let it be. Let them work on this behind the scenes, the way a good classic game should be planned and made. The less you know about this title the better. At the very least, please try to understand that if they are not releasing information on a product it means that it is either superior or inferior.
Yes, like that they can make a crappy thie like Deadly shadows was and then we all gonna cry. I don't need news, I just need that they communicate, but they act like they don't give a f*** about the community, they don't say why pcgamer article has been canceled, they don't answer when whe ask them if thief4 will be at e3 this year. I don't blame community manager himself as a man, I blame is behavior, opportunist. He will popu on thief4 forum and be friendly, talk with us while he could do it before even if he has nothing to say, just to maintain a good atmosphere.
But apparently, you do like being threated like "things whith money" and that's sad.
To ignore someone, it's like not showing him any consideration.

This petition idea is ridiculous and this thread ought to be closed, imo.
Just because you don't like the idea the thread should be closed? :erg:
Having said that, I can't really see the petition being very useful either... but I don't mind people discussing the advantages and disadvantages of open communication between the fans and the developers. I suppose it would be nice if they released some new information every now and then, but I trust that the marketing and PR people know how things in the gaming business work and what's the best for them.

I haven't once seen him act "downright unfriendly" as Dia's post states . :wot:
That was my interpretation; maybe I should've said 'overly-dismissive of us'? Regardless and
imo, his responses lacked the friendliness towards us and willingness to answer questions that Rene exhibited.
Though I may not agree with making a petition, I find it interesting to read all the pros/cons. And I don't think a thread should be closed just because you disagree with the posts/posters.

What utter nonsense is this now?

Anyone who thinks that EM cares what the tiny community of TTLG thinks about T4 is fooling themselves. They are making this game for the masses, and to make a boatload of money, plain and simple.
People here can get upset over the fact that there used to be contact and now there isn't, or that EM is turning their backs on the diehards, but in the end, you've got to be realistic - they are spending millions on developing a AAA game, and they're going to devote their resources to things that really matter. If they can create a Thief game that sells 10 mill and pisses off the old school fanbase, they'll do it - why would they care? There's not even any ex-LGSers on staff at EM, so it's only a Thief game in the weakest sense anyway.
Frankly, I'm not sure how anyone could be surprised by this. A petition won't mean jack to EM.

Obviously then, you feel the same way about the 'petition' as I do.

No, Eidos Montreal is a NEW studio. You shouldn't go blaming them for another studio's mistakes. Same company, yes, but entirely different people with different ideas. I thought this was common knowledge.

If it was an interpretation... you could have fooled me. Really, just idle gossip then.
I am sure you must be aware that the new CM has not yet been given permission to share any information with forum members. The moderator has told us this. Furthermore, Kyle has only attended the forum a few times... so it's no wonder that nothing much has been said by him.
Seriously... this thread is so petty. I'm out of here... best leave people to get on with it. :cheeky:
PS. NO, I won't be signing any such petition.

I know that the idea of petition is a bit "stupid" but i don't see another way to be heard. It's just that "this is all about marketing and money money money" make me sick. Videogames have a big potential, like art, we can do amazing things to create so good games, instead all the games tend to be similar (infiltration games will have assassin's creed movement and splinter cell movement). I don't blame Assassin's creed and splinter cell, I love these games, but they have their "soul" and others infiltration games must have their own).
I think the developpers will take most part of thief deadly shadows gameplay because a lot of people loved it, even if it is not thief for me. The leaked picture was here to prove it (3rd person, yeahh, while mario aguera said that will not be disappointed ). They show nothing because they know that the fans will be mad with what they will show. They will reveal the game at the last minute like that we won't be able to change anything. (splinter cell, assassin creed movements, garret will be able to see trough walls (like hitman absolution YEAH, loot glint, shotgun, weapon of mass destruction, love story, no rope arrows,...).
Sorry again for my english:erg:

Hmm, not really. I don't find the idea of a petition ridiculous, I simply don't think it would make much of a change, even if all the TTLGers who read the Thief forums signed it. And to be honest, I'm not
that interested to read all sorts of pre-release information, I just want the game to be good whenever it comes out. Maybe I'll read some preview articles closer to the release...
But it seems like this is an important thing for wdog, so I won't be against his idea either. What good would closing this thread achieve anyway? Do you think that Eidos will get angry at us if we discuss their communication policy and cancel Thief 4? :p

Have a nice day anyhow.

It's not a stupid idea, but like Brethren pointed out, they're making Thief 4 for the masses and whatever we discuss here on TTLG probably doesn't matter much.
I too would love it if the games industry wasn't all about marketing and money, but it's a huge business so I'm not sure if we can really blame Eidos for not wanting to take too many risks with their money. Games certainly have changed a lot only during the last decade or so, I feel that I (and therefore a lot of us here on TTLG?) don't belong to the "target audience" of many new games anymore. These days the target audience seems to have shifted to more "casual" kind of players and games are a bit like action movies - the game does all the thinking for you, holds your hand all the time and tells you where to go and what to do, and you just play all the fun parts. Of course there are always exceptions, and I may be exaggerating a bit... :p
If you want to play some "arty" games, you should look for games made by some small game studios or indie game developers, that's where all the truly fresh ideas seem to come from these days. I have a feeling that Thief 4 will be closer to a blockbuster action film than to a piece of art... which may or may not be as bad as it sounds.
