I'm going to go with the suggestion that there are multiple museums in the City, and that it's placement could be anywhere in the City. Hightowne would be apropos as well.
I can agree in theory. Pag's diary just suggests that the exhibit involved in the plot is on mechanist technology, which made me think New Quarter. The idea of something like Hightowne makes me think a scene in The Prestige, a Victorian-era type of exhibit on Tesla and his electrical gadgets to impress the stodgy bourgeois; they are all curious about this new movement and entrepreneurs are trying to cash in on the new fashion, and of course K has his own agenda in trying to get into the good graces of the old establishment (with his servant project). So there's something there. Of course there's those sorts of people and a museum in Auldale too. I guess the main selling point for it to be a different museum is that, frankly, it's just flat-out different architecture, and it doesn't make sense to say two different buildings are the same museum ... even though some time has passed, but not that much.
Might look into more detail into the architecture and diary scoping for more definite hints if possible, so there's as little speculation as you can get.

I keep thinking of str8g8's 'The Bridge' with this - perhaps inserting it into the area between the Wayside Docks and Shalebridge?
I follow you. That's just next to where I was thinking ((

I only said left to fill up map space, and I figured the ghetto would go on, but I grant that it's probably more slummy the closer you get to the water, and slummy is what we want. And the tie into how the Bridge develops that area is nice. Do we know who Willard is by the way?

Good job, guys.
And that's a no on Willard, unless rats are involved.:p
No Willard anywhere but in that name.

Just looking over the description of the T2G missions again, esp in terms of the intended plots, it gave me more thoughts about placement.
Ah, this is what it's all about, isn't it? The insertion of other missions, whether semi-official or fanmade, into our great work. I can't wait until we finally get this wrapped up (soon, I hope...?) just so I can watch all the FM designers and fans weaving their works into the tapestry.
:D

I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to that, but it's a different layer after all. :erg:

Well, hey, I'm not saying we're going to be doing all that work. At that stage, I kind of figure it will be up to the designers themselves (or, in their absence, the fans) to come up with the placements.
Believe me, I'm looking forward to getting this over and done with just as much as the rest of you. ;)

I rather referred to FMs spurning the canon, but if we make this voluntarily maybe only those interested (and with a clear image of where their missions take place) will contribute, so it might indeed be OK after all. :erg:
The T2G missions are fine by me (maybe with a different layer as well...?), or at least I don't have any tangible opinion about them anymore. :p

I thought it was effectively done now. Seems like everything on the map now is locked in, and that's all the released OMs. It could use an artistic version, but that's just a formality, isn't it?
As for the T2G missions, I started talking about them thinking it was worth at least getting them placed now while were waiting for the artistic maps to come out. Good as time as any.
I think they deserve a place on a canon map IMO because they're still from LGS, the dev's were far enough along and gave enough information to place them where they would have been if they were released, and they deserve to trump anything else that could go there, so why not on an official map; but also with a footnote that they're unreleased and only semi-official, and that's a good compromise. But I also don't think it's that big of a deal; anybody can treat them however they like on their own map, as an extra layer, semi-official, like an FM, whatever, since it's easy enough to crop them out, so sort of an academic debate anyway.
As for FMs, I was thinking somebody would open a new thread and it would be open for discussion, sort of like this thread. The authors would have a big say (like devs of the OMs). But it's still which place makes the most sense. And on that, as this thread demonstrates, more minds are better than fewer, esp if it's not obvious even to the author where exactly it is (also considering that authors didn't know how the final map would turn out). But I just thought that's a more interesting way for everybody to go than the alternative of individuals placing things spontaneously; it keeps the game going, and they can come up with their own rules of engagement.

A little (
http://whitecortex.net/~mikko/wip_citymap/thecitymap.svg) update. T3-docks and trail of blood left, but I dunno about trail of blood, is it a good idea to put it anywhere in The City?
Vectorized Soulforge today and my gosh, can it really be that big? Never finished the level myself :o
There are a lot of optimizations and pixel-perfectness to do yet (and the base-layer), but darn, it really is coming together now, isn't it? :D
EDIT: should work now in Gecko -based browsers; ie. FireFox
EDIT2: filesize: 116K! Suck on that, InkScape!

Can I just say: yay?
Yay! :cheeky:
