When COD4 came out there were 20,000+ people online
On one battlefield?
Now I know why they complain about grenades.

64 players doesn't really work for Resistance 2, the best games are the small ones, and that is what the 64 multiplayer really is, a lot of small matches happening on the same map. All this sounds like a great idea but they really have to think of an incentive to cooperate, I know of the commander and squads and all that, but I don't see it working. There is no way it will become some sort of FPS/RTS.

Planetside worked well. I don't know how many people were on the servers at once but I've had battles in Planetside that were huge.

During my short stint playing planetside, battles were capped at 300 players. And yeah, that seemed suitably massive.

Well I never played Planetside, forgot about it really. Maybe this is indeed a very cool game.

Fragony, I could tell you some tales. Anyone who played Planetside could. The time we failed to hold a bridge against an armoured assault with anti-tank weapons, an assault that lasted an hour as they slowly progressed using the smoking carcasses of their vehicles as cover.
The time we had a 100 man force ready to leave the base, all geared up in tanks, ships, mechs and combined arms infantry groups only to suddenly hear the plasma fire of our anti-aircraft mechs before looking up at the surprise attack bomber squadron and the falling bombs that brought the fire before the real storm.
Or the time our armoured attack force encountered a Big Fucking Robot on the road to Damascus, and I bailed just before the rocket hail totalled by light tank. I hid taking potshots at that monster for an age. It was like the 1st scene in Transformers - this massive robot messing our entire shit up as wave after wave of the following armour group came around the bend.
If MAG is anything like this it will be fabulous. Doesn't need the BFR though.

My scarily-good-at-games friend also has fond memories of Planetside. Especially fucking with people as a spy or whatever it was. He regales me with tales of it from time to time. Makes me wish I'd played it.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Ha ha. Or course that came to mind as I typed :thumb:
Yeah dethtoll, there was a stealth suit. If you stood still you were invisible (unless someone was using a helmet upgrade) and it let you do some dirty work. Taking out people as they accessed a console to suit/arm up with only a crappy pistol and one chance to pull it off (then ammo gone, you revealed and thus dead). Nice.
