I've had many problems with sliding off the side of ladders when climbing at speed; I prefer a more 'sticky' ladder like Thief has. And I think having to point in the direction I want to climb is a silly way to do it. Who climbs ladders looking straight up or straight down anyway?
Not that it's a big issue of course, and it's not like any other FPS has managed to do laddders at all decently either. I will sacrifice my firstborn son to the game developer who comes up with a way to get onto the top of a ladder without plunging down the shaft to your doom.

The thing that sets DX above in the ladder category is its "don't take damage when falling off ladders aug". You just know thats the main reason its there

RAPT0R: Why dont you play Thief II, It doesnt have zombies and stuff like Thief:TDP. I still like Thief better, although now that I have been playing Deus Ex, I booted up Thief II to play the FM's and I am sucking royal @$$ for not playing it in so long. I ill play more today to get 'back in the groove' Yeah Hanse you can save Paul. Ill tell you how but if you want to try yourselfe then dont look past this point:
Kill everything in the ton hotel, and go throught the FRONT doors.
Singing Dancing Moose on 26/7/2000 at 19:58
Hanse, one hint on saving Paul, you have to die in the hotel in order for Paul to survive. If you succesfully fight your way through and leave the hotel, Paul dies.

Speaking of dying in the Ton, has anyone been gibbed, and then magically reconstituted in the cell-block? I accidently gibbed myself with a LAM, and clearly saw the pieces of my body bouncing around before the loading screen hit...seems like UNATCO went to an awful lot of trouble to reconstitute me in order to punish me...

Singing Dancing Moose: I killed everyone in the ton, and got caught in battery park and paul survived
Singing Dancing Moose on 26/7/2000 at 23:55
Really? Odd, as I killed everyone, then I left, and when I was captured Paul was dead.

Just to let you know another female was playing/posting to Deus Ex but I will say I'm more on ION's boards these days because of more activity regarding game play/probs. I am in the Escape from MJ12 level and have been playing practically non-stop for at least a week, all hours day and night. I am retired so I have more time, thank goodness. I have been totally captivated by this game and very glad I decided to buy it after playing the demo.
About the ladder thing...yes it's easy to slip off at times but then T2 had it's probs with ladders/ropes as well. The only game I found so far that had easy/good ladder climbs/descents was Draken. You pretty much automatically got on when you approached it instead of a hit or miss thing and I sure liked that

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifI do find this game much more engrossing than T2 for all it's many options mentioned earlier and I enjoyed T2 very much as well. I just think the story is more developed in Deus and draws you into it to want to keep playing and especially with the alternative ways you can chose to play it in (choices you have to make, develop the way your character/NPC's guide the development as to the way it evolves) but with the main plot in place. I could go on as well but suffice to say I'm lovin this game too!

ps: Singing DM, you have to get shot/die? while fighting against MIB's in hotel more or less and Paul lives. If you leave by window before MIB's come through door, he dies. If you leave by window and get to Battery Park/surrender, he dies as well. There's probably another scenerio but basically stay in room, try to help Paul, get zapped and he lives...more or less.

It's not how you win the game, it's how you play it :-)

'tis true.
I killed EVERYTHING (except the rats... and Paul, of course... also, if there was a junkie in the other room, I left her alone) in the 'ton and then left through the front door. (There's at least one troop milling about in the area behind the front desk, and don't forget any that might be near the elevator shaft or over by the ATMs.)
Not sure if this matters, but I also went to see Smuggler, told him to leave, and then eliminated all of the MJ12 troops that came in when I resurfaced from Smugglers. Made sure the streets were clean, then left.
Got to the park, got captured by invincible Gunther, cut to jail cell. Paul's still alive and well, waiting in a lab.<small>

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I bought it a couple weeks ago (was it maybe just a week? How time flies). At first, I didn't like it. I've been spoiled by Thief I & II and didn't think any other game could satisfy me. And at first, it didn't. I kept thinking, "Argh! Many taffers loved this, why can't I get into it? It's like a soldier game!"
Oh, how I love being wrong in this instance.

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifKept with it and then suddenly started to play it *ravenously*. I've completed all 3 endgames and am letting them sink in. I only encountered two bugs, thankfully, and they weren't repeated.
Really, the amount of work and loving detail put into this is astounding. And the conspiracies, oh boy. I love that sort of thing.
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif The story kept me going all the time (though it did seem to get just a *tad* repetative/long in the couple of missions before the end mission).
I still love the Thief games - nothing can replace those for me, but Deus Ex stands up there with them on a set of standards of it's own.

Can't wait to bug my friends to buy it.
