Hey!...What about me? I've been here since the beginning!

Sorry -- I didn't mean to offend any lady taffers who have been hanging around... When I started this post, it was my first entry into this forum, and I hadn't finished the game yet, so I didn't fully read many of the threads for fear of spoilers...
But someone further up this thread did mention you, Alessandra, and I noted that Bruny was in here as well, as well as a few others. And it appears the ranks are growing.
On another note, I did in fact finish the game a few days ago (THERE ARE SPOILERS COMING UP).
My original feeling about this game remains -- I love it! And now having read some of the other threads, I think my favorite part of this game is the fact that it can be different every time you play it according to how you play it. With Thief, you can play in a few different styles (Kill 'em all, Whack 'em and Stack 'em, Sneaksie type, zero damage...) but the plot line is quite rigid - the story still moves forward as written. Period. (This is not necessarily a bad thing, just a comparison I am making.) With DX, you have choices that you can make throughout the game that affect things that may or may not happen later. The general storyline remains intact, but different things are affected. (i.e. saving Paul - doh! or saving Jock, well the list goes on.)
The endings? I wasn't really thrilled with any of them, but I think forever more I will compare the ending of Thief TDP with every game I ever play again. I can't say I liked any one any more than any other.
I haven't started playing my second time through yet, but I probably will soon, and on a higher difficulty level. And I have a suspicion that I'll experience a lot of different things this time around!

"...you are forgiven of all you may have done up to this day, Hanse. You aren't a quintuple murderer, are you?" asked the prince.
"I've never killed anyone, Highness," said Hanse.
"I have! This very night."
"Pardon, Highness, but killing's the business of them that rule, not thieves...," replied Hanse.

Ladders are so frikkin simple, I am amazed that designers haven't fixed them yet.
THIEF 2 has *horrific* ladders. I am constantly waking up the whole neighborhood upon climbing off, or falling sideways to my death (that @#$%^&* ledge in "Life of the party") or getting stuck absolutely unable to move(!) just as a guard I had previously timed rounds up the corner, or even ending up on the darn thing because I walked too close to it while trying to hide. I hate them with a passion. I turned off the "jump to ladder" feature - no diff. Still sucks.
The ladders in Quake2 are *by far* the best. Point and walk!
Even better is an option for the "use" key - I generally keep the "use" key close to my movement keys (or on the mouse thumb button) just gimme ladders that respond to "use" and I'll be happy.

It was fun reading your impressions, Hanse! You certainly will play a second time, I can tell. Me, I'm contemplating playing it a *third* time but am trying to resist. It was fun noticing things I hadn't seen before when I played it a second time. Saved Paul, actually teared up a little when I saw him alive later in the game, silly me. Decided to have the doctor stay at UNATCO. Tried to stay loyal to UNATCO (the one area of Deus Ex which I think is not flexible enough). Took a complete 180 turn from my thiefly ways and was quite a bit more bloodthirsty (that sniper rifle is simply irresistable). It's amazing how quickly I made it through the game when I started killing just about everyone. It's quite a different experience, believe me!
So what are we supposed to play after Deus Ex?

Icewind Dale to play Deus Ex -- I guess it's back to that for awhile. I just didn't get as addicted to Icewind Dale as I did to Torment, and had no problem interrupting it for DX (which I
couldn't stop playing). And of course I'll be getting back to DX again...

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifOops...I have a quick question for you, even though it's very off-topic....
When you play multiplayer Icewind Dale, does it pause the game for all players during *every* conversation and force everybody to read it the way Baldur's Gate did, or does it only do that for plot-critical conversations the way Baldur's Gate II will?

Sorry, Alessandra, can't help you. I haven't actually played Icewind Dale multiplyer yet. I'm still trying to get through it on my own...

So Paul can live? Shit, if he can than I'm going back to Hell's Kitchen and saving him. He's the man.
