Me and The Cradle - this won't end well... - by Motley Fool

Ok, so, thanks to the bargain bin at EB, I now have my very own copy of Thief: Deadly Shadows (PC)! Once I've had my fill of T2 FMs, I'm planning to fire it up and see what's new in Garrett's world. I'm really looking forward to it!
... except for the Cradle.
....which I know nothing about except that it's going to jump out of my CRT and headphones, and throttle me to death with raw terror.
See, I'm a total wuss when it comes to scary stuff. "Return to the Cathedral in TG just about did me in. Certain parts of "Rowena's Curse", "Ominous Bequest" have given me nightmares (really!) If the little I've read about the Cradle is anywhere close to being true, I may not make it through the game!
I will try, though - I promise. But I'm asking in advance... is there anyone who has a saved game at the end of that mission that I can use to escape, if the willies are just too much for me?:eek::eek:

You HAVE to play all through the mission. Chances are from what I just read about you that more then likely it'll give you some serious shakes. However, it's a masterpiece of level and sound design. Truely both the best and worst part of Thief III.
I recommend you refrain from reading anything about the Cradle. The less you know, the more amazed (and scared) you'll be.

That's good! :D

That's bad! :nono:
No, seriously, I'm gonna give it a try when I finally arrive at the level. I know that creepy levels can be really fun ("Down in the Boneyard" was chilling, but still one of my all-time favorite TG levels). So I promise I'll do my best, but really, I may get to a point where I just can't go on. When terror > fun, then there's really no point.
Is there a Ctrl-Alt-End equivalent in T3? If not, some help might be needed in the form of a saved game. :erm:

Never mind - I'm a dork. I see that there's a sticky in this forum with saved games for downloading. Sorry!
And I promise to use them only as a last resort. :D

Awww, come on, MF! You can do it! If I could make it through that level with my sanity intact, anybody can. :cheeky:
Do I need to come over & hold your hand? :ebil:

I think I'm going to have to play it during the daylight hours only, with sunlight streaming through the windows and the soothing sounds of Bach coming from my radio. Plus I'll turn off my computer speakers. :cheeky: THEN maybe I'll be able to handle it.

Just remember to stock up on supplies before you head into the cradle and it won't be nearly as scary. ;)
Although I found it much more fun because I was truly terrified and was ghosting the level. :ebil:

A word of advice: Multiple stab wounds can hurt. Badly.
Stock up on courage, Flashbombs, and of course, Trix Yougurt (Dont let that dumbass rabbit get 'em!) and head on in, for some serious scares.

Oh, one more bit of adive - if you want a map when you go into the Cradle (which you probabaly will) you'll have to get it before you get in. Won't tell you where the map is though :p

I have two suggestions to help you make it through cradle. 1) Make sure you'll have no outside interruptions. My dog has a very LOUD bark that he uses whenever a car drives by. When I played Cradle, it was completely silent, then all of a sudden this loud howl that shocked me like a school fire alarm. Also be wary of practical jokers in your house who might sneak up on you, because once your shocked enough, you won't be able to get back to the game. 2)Try not to do what I did, as in take things slow. Save the game at the beginning and rush the level swinging madly until you die. This will give you a moderate idea of what happens where and you'll be less freaked when something does happen. Also try not to freak yourself out. I spent 20 minutes sitting outside a particular attic door(everyone knows what I'm talking about) before working up the courage to open it.
