One thing that surprised me about the T3 is that you did not see even a single Mechanist, surely a few die hards would have remained and not caved into pressure from the Hammerites to rejoin the fold.
Thoughts?

Following the events of Thief 2 and the death of Karras, it seems the Mechanist order fell apart completely. The Hammerites regained power fairly quickly, and held the 'Heresy Trials' in which they rounded up Mechanists and either re-intergrated them into the Order of the Hammer, or locked them away.

It's possible that some mechanists are still around. At the end of T2, there were some documents left around by the master forger that he and other dissenting members had run off to someplace else. Since Garrett never really left the city in T3, we don't know that they aren't still around but in a different city. I would imagine that they are indeed still around but not as vocal or as pushy without their former beloved Karras.

The Cetus Amicus is still around, someone must be running that.
It is also entirely possible that the mechanists are still in the city, just a different part of it.
However I think they'd have gone into hiding, and most of the converted from T2 would just go with the flow, so there'd only be a few die hards left.

Or Burrick. Or power transmission tower. Or female guard. Or black person.
TDS wasn't really much in the continuity department.

Maybe they wanted more of a medieval feel to the game? After all, after the descent of the Mechanists, there would be a sort of "Dark Age" like after the fall of Rome.
Still, this isnt supposed to be a realistic game, and I would have liked to see those people and things put into the game.

There's a note somewhere that complains about those Mechanist victrolas... I think it was in the Cradle. But that was really more of a random throwaway reference for fans, I guess.

An incorrect one too, since the Cradle burned down 20 years prior to Thief 3, long before the Mechanists were even a thought in Karras's mind :P

I thought it was in Widdow Moria's mansion, either that or it was in Wieldstrom Museum (head guy's office)

There is one in the Moira Mansion, and I do believe there's a note in the mansion written by the Widow mentioning she doesn't like them.
There's also several of them scattered throughout Weildstrum.
