The Medal of Honor franchise is abandoning World War II in favor of a modern war setting for a new game arriving in fall 2010, publisher Electronic Arts has revealed.
The first-person shooter will take place in Afghanistan, and introduce the Tier 1 Operator, a military entity "who takes on missions no one else can handle," says a statement from EA.
"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war," says Greg Goodrich, executive producer of Medal of Honor, in a statement.
I wonder what prompted this revolutionary idea?

On a guess, I'd say the popularity of World of Warcraft.

This could be interesting if they don't go the whole James Bond route that IW is into now.

They're probably going off the popularity of Modern Warfare. They've also most likely came to the conclusion that nobody's interested in WWII anymore and current wars are where it's at. I wouldn't be surprised if a Russian or Russia itself is involved in it somehow.

I'd be kinda surprised if Russia were involved in it, unless we're fighting them in Afghanistan and someone forgot to tell me.
