And really, who ever buys games for the multiplayer?
Stuff like Team Fortress 2 and iRacing don't exist without multiplayer, and no one buys Battlefield games for the singleplayer.

There is no point in buying FPSes for the multi because they're all shit compared to BF2142 anyway.

The sacrifices you make to bring TTLG the newest news will never be forgotten, EvaUnit02

Pretty soon everyone will be crying over the surplus of Modern Warfare-style shooters in the market, just like with WW2 shooters a few years back. In this game it looks like there really isn't a great deal of originality in a broader sense
Anyway, I'm hoping everyone will be surprised and that the SP will play better than the MW2 interactive drama lulz fest. Though right now it is reminding me pretty strongly of Dragon Rising. Which was fucking terrible

Singleplayer is good. Think Modern Warfare, less over-the-top but still dramaticized, no respawning (that I've seen so far), and 8-directional lean to go along with crouch/prone. Graphics aren't stunning but do the job, story isn't amazing but AFAIK it's basically 'here's a hollywood version of Afghanistan 2001'. I'm enjoying it more than MW2, maybe not quite as much as MW1. No idea on the length yet. Lots of "duck behind cover, lean out and shoot men in the head" which is great, and feels quite nice since the Taliban (and yes, they use the word "Taliban" in SP) don't come in endless waves until you pass a trigger point.
Did I mention 8-way leaning you elitist fucking retards?
No one's online yet (love the total lack of release-date checking), just a pile of empty servers in multi (which is a separate shortcut/executable, Splinter Cell style), but I did notice there are modes that aren't in the beta, including something which sounds like BC2's rush mode. Also, PC users who buy the disc (which is a limited edition) will get early access to the BF3 beta and the same sniper rifle that the MoH open beta users received.

The multiplayer is too fast and hectic for my taste. It's more like Modern Warfare 2, less Bad Company 2 which is presently my favorite online game. Sure, it's fun and all, but I don't know if it'll hold my attention for much longer. But DICE games always surprise me in that respect.
As far as the campaign goes, it completely blows Modern Warfare out of the water. The shooting feels fantastic and the sound work is unparalleled. The pacing and mission varied is solid. I really appreciate it when games do blood right, especially ones that have any pretension to realism. And the musical score is perfect (save for one rap-rock b-side and, shoot me, Linkin Park at the end) and FAR superior to "effort" Hans Zimmer put forward in MW2 (bleep bloop, horn, boop boop, etc). The bugs are there and I did have to restart a mission twice to fix it, but that's my only complaint. Well, and the length. I have to say I was completely disgusted with IGN for their 6.0 review. I love the game, they hated it, that's fine and all, but their reasons for hating it are so hypocritical I couldn't believe what I was reading.
Linear? Yeah, so, what's Modern Warfare, a fucking open world game?
Characters you don't care about? I actually cared more about the guys in MoH than any of the CoD games. Wearing a mask with a skull on it is NOT character development. At least in MoH I believed these guys could actually exist so I at least felt for their real counterparts.
A "whack a mole" contest? This one really got my jaw on the floor. What is Call of Duty if not precisely that?

I felt like the campaign lacked polish, which probably is why it's getting such mediocre reviews. I enjoyed it much more than MW2, that's for sure (I enjoyed BC2's campaign more than MW2's as well, though).
