Adam is, of course, Ocelot - as to why he and Snake ended up shooting eachother instead of meeting eachother like good compatriots, I'm not sure, though I do think I figured this out and just forgot about it.
I can't decided wether or not this is an unsanswered question in the storyline or just a plot hole.
Maybe Ocelot's competitive nature and because he's pretending to work for the American government (or maybe he really is) made him feel like Snake was a threat. At times though, he helps you. So maybe he was just putting his jealousy aside when it really mattered? But he does risk a lot just to confront you time and time again.
gamefaqs asks that you NOT directly link to the FAQs. Just link the game's page.

But you can always copy-paste the URLs if you want to reach them directly ;)

I'm guessing its the former - Kojima, as far as I can tell (and despite numerous accusations) is pretty good at not making plot holes - logical oddities, perhaps, but not big gaping holes - I imagine it's just an unanswered question. Though maybe I'll have new revelations if my COPY OF SUBSISTENCE EVERY ACTUALLY !#@$ING ARRIVES:mad:

I'm going with the 'Unanswered Question' bit. It seems too big a plot hole for Kojima to have skipped over, especially considering at the detail he paid to even the smallest things in MGS3, story wise.

Ok, am replaying Subsistence and got to the Eva introduction part.
So my memory was correct - Eva shoots first. Remember that Ocelot is not just working with the Ocelot unit - he's working with KGB, too. So the KGB troops that surround Snake could be Ocelot's, as a precaution - sort of like they surrounded Snake when Ocelot thought he was The Boss and didn't plan to shoot him (his line of "If you're not the Boss, then die" implies that if he WAS the boss, he wouldn't die). However, before anything can happen Eva blows all their brains out. So maybe Ocelot thought Snake had done that, or something. But yeah, could also just be him trying to balance the sides he's playing. It's also possible that he INTENTIONALLY never killed Big Boss - intentionally expended all his bullets, etc.
Finished MGS2 few years ago and the game was chock-full of endless chatter, movies, tips to the degree they plainly annoyed me.
Now, when I started MGS3.... gosh, I think it's a way too much. Being a perfectionist usually seeking to get every bit of info and see everything in games I like, I find this game a nightmare - had to listen to Major Tom's tips for about 90 mins (!) until they started to repeat, and then there were other personages with their chatter and tips. The game has TONs of possibilities, interesting features, items, cool techniques - actually I'm kind of overwhelmed, but the problem (as with all Kojima's games) is that there is too little GAME to play with them enough. I mean why spend so much time and efforts to implement really complex game mechanics and then make a sandbox so small that a player often even hasn't time to play with good half of the features/items, let alone mastering them?
The bottom line is that MGS could be the perfect stylish tactical stealth action GAME, instead it's more like an interactive MOVIE/PRESENTATION with complex game mechanics. And that's the inadequacy.

It's my opinion that people ought to look at the MGS games two ways. That they present themselves as movies and as games. Each part takes turns spending time with the player. I thoroughly enjoyed the complex game mechanics of Subsistence. It made the game a bit more entertaining. If you didn't have stamina you weren't going to get very far in the jungle. Seems logical to me so you hunt giant snakes or alligators, but whatever.

242 once chastised me for "being a mainstream guy who likes dumb action films" because I like The Dark Knight and think Kubrick is overrated. (Despite the fact that TDK was the most "actiony" film on the list of favourite movies of mine that he requested, which mostly consisted of shit like Citizen Kane and Apocalypse Now)
Then he turns around and posts this shit.
So no, I don't think the MGS series is for him.

It hurts to play it, but it attracts me anyway thanks to many cool features. I like the game, the thing is there is too little of gameplay.
I spend an hour to learn/get used to features/items/weapons I encounter, then I play for like 5-10 minutes utilizing them until I'm interrupted by a long cutscene/chatter and and new items/features appear, and so on.
