So speaking of PSP, last time I finished MGS1 was the emulated psx version on PSP. 'Twas good, even though you have to do a bit of gymnastics due to the handheld having less buttons.
Haven't played the Ac!d games, might try someday.
I'm somewhat struggling with Portable Ops, since I can't seem to get used to the new perspective and controls. (Haven't played MGS3 or MGS4, don't have a PS2/PS3).
Also, get this: Kojima's apparently more involved with MGS: Peace Walker for PSP than he is with MGS Rising.

I've heard they are about to rerelease MGS1 on PSN. Might be worth a try (I can't, as I don't have access to WLAN), because it seems that you can get stuck with Psycho Mantis if playing on an emulated PSX version.

Got it already. It's one of the reasons I bought a PSP (that and Mega Man Powered Up, Dracula X Chronicles, a computer failure and the fact that it doesn't require me to buy a TV).
As for MGS PO, I still haven't figured out why the game's now so freaking rare. EB Games here have, like, ten copies of Ratchet & Clank and Daxter on the shelves (aren't they supposed to be good games, by the way?), but no Portable Ops, at least not the regular edition. I had to order a fairly overpriced copy on eBay. I should receive it in a week or so and I hope the game's worth it.

Then just purchase it off of the PC version of PSN and copy over to your PSP via USB connection. Up until very recently this was the only to get PSP games off PSN.

Just order it online. It's not like "shops in Downtown Ottawa" are your only option.
PSPs are region free, BTW. The European version of MGS:PO isn't rare at all, it was re-released again fairly recently bundled with Silent Hill: Origins. It has more content than North American and Japanese releases.

There is no problem with Mantis, you can easily switch the controllers from the emulation menu. I played through the whole game. Aside from clunky controls the only problem really is that in some of the longer dialogues/monologues the audio can get a bit choppy.

Didn't know about that. You can never be too sure with Sony. Anyway, I guess it's too late now. I'm not too fond of overseas orders anyway.
Out of curiosity, what is the additional european content?

No, just the PSN STORE. The concept is not hard to grasp.
1. Point web browser to web site.
2. Login and purchase game, download demo, wallpaper, theme, etc.
3. Hook up PSP via USB cable to PC, copy downloaded program to your Memory Stick Pro Duo.
Up until a few months ago, this was the only way access to get PSP content from the PSN.

* New "Boss Battle" mode allows players to unlock additional (unconfirmed) characters for recruitment
* At least 12 new characters will reportedly be added
* Existing characters will get expanded careers, which now focus on key attributes
* Two new multiplayer maps will be added

Wow! Didn't know the PSP had such features. Thanks a lot!

After an hour or two, the game really became more gameplay-focused, I even almost forgot about major, para-medic, Sigint.... an the story as well. First few hours were more terrorizing than MGS2 however, but now it's almost perfect, locations and gameplay are quite diversified. And I think it must be 3-4 times bigger than MGS2, I'm at the fight with The Fear and save game file says it's 33hrs already :wot: The HUGE pile of weapons and items I already have reminds me of EA's C&C/RA - lots of units just to impress player as it seems but only few are really practical. Overall, so far it seems MUCH better than previous MGSes.

Wow, that is quite a drastic change of opinion, 242!
When MGS3 came out, I got it and the huge strategy guide for Christmas 2004 (my step-dad said they had an unbelievably good deal on the combo). I was HOOKED. I devoted my life to that game over the holiday break, and was extremely satisfied when I finished it. It didn't leave the sour taste in my mouth like the end of MGS 2 did.
A very emotional, tense, gripping military story with a great little love story and a great history lesson on Metal Gear's universe woven into it. I personally felt the game was a near perfect 9.9 when it was new. Haven't played it since mid 2005, so I can't speak on how well it has aged, however.

If you'll want to replay it, consider Subsistence, I believe you've got Snake Eater. MGS3 is so much better with free 3d camera of Subsistence.
