MGS3 is easily the best Metal Gear and my favourite PS2 game to boot.

Along with gunsmoke's post, no truer words were ever spoken. Seconded, thirded, and fourthed.
You've got quite a ways to go in MGS3 yet, 242. Toldja there was plenty of game in there. :D

48hrs already and I just stuffed major Raikov into locker. This game seems shockingly huge after MGS1 and 2. I tend to interrogate everybody and search every nook and cranny though often restarting areas after encounter, also I play no-kill way, but then again I did the same in previous installments.
By the way, Kojima seems to have some.... affection towards unusual relationships. This time it's major Raikov and colonel Volgin, what a pair :)
PS: Love bosses so far, the fight with The End was epic. And it's possible to defeat him in some really unusual ways.

Glad you're enjoying MGS3, 242. You're making me want to pick it up again myself.

Me too, my neighbor/friend got a PS2 a while back and he lets me borrow it whenever. I have been thinking about getting a few exclusives (such as Subsistence) for a while now. Can't wait

Finished the game on Hard with rank of Cow - 54hrs, 200+ alerts and 7 kills (I'm not sure what were counted as kills and what not :erm: I blew some barrels up, food poisoned some famished soldiers, and planted a few tarantulas and scorpions).
In the ending parts of the game, Kojima's beloved information attack just overwhelmed me. The story transformed from the coherent one which it was during most of the game (and which I hoped it would stay) to a mess of MGS2 kind. All movies were absolutely excellent though and very cinematographic, many even quite touching. Oh, and there is 3+ hrs "MGS3 Movie" on the 3rd disc... I can't remember when I saw so much contents, hidden bonuses and details in a game last time.
PS: For whom Ocelot was working anyway? What ends he pursued?

He was a triple agent, working for the CIA. IIRC, he was a sleeper agent in Volgin's command, until the deal with the Boss got shot to hell, in which case he was assigned with returning the Legacy to the States.

But why triple agent and not just double?

Because, like, three is better than two by 50%! It's scientific, man!

242, did you pay attention to the bit after the end of the credits? They always stick stuff at the end like that, and have been doing so since the first game.
Anyway:
He was secretly working for the KGB as a GRU major under Volgin. Except the KGB- and everyone else- didn't know that he was actually ADAM, under orders straight from the director of the CIA himself, to retrieve the Philosophers' Legacy. The Legacy EVA made off with was a fake, planted by Ocelot- he knew EVA actually worked for China, which also wanted the Legacy (and for good reason, go go Great Leap Forward Backward). He's been triple-crossing everyone from the very beginning.
He would later assassinate the DCI and join the Patriots, continuing to work in secret for the KGB and becoming a master interrogator, until he would leave them to join FOXHOUND, except he's actually working for the President/Solidus; he seems to be working with Gurlukovich's mercenaries (whom he had contacts with as part of FOXHOUND's plot in MGS1) in MGS2, only to betray them and reveal his alliance with Solidus. Except he's been playing Solidus, too, and reveals his true alliance to the Patriots.
To boil it down, he works for the CIA at first only to switch sides to the Patriots in 1970.
I dunno what shenanigans he gets up to in MGS4.
