Also, I swear we're the only people on this forum who give a rat's ass about MGS:P
I do too =P Unfortunately, my Memory Stick is only a 32MB, so I can't try the demo. But I'm fairly excited about the game; I bought the PSP for Portable Ops, which proved a tremendous disappointment on all fronts, so it's good to know I didn't over-pay this brick for nothing.

I played Portable Ops until I hit a boss fight. The controls were hard enough up to that point, and I wasn't expecting the fight so I didn't have the right supplies. And I quit.
I'd try this demo but I'm running custom firmware.

What puzzles me is that Portable Ops got almost universally glowing reviews - it made me think that I just had some fine motor control issue that prevented me alone from controlling it. But apparently not. Did all the reviewers have three hands, or something?

Yeah, while I forced myself to eventually adapt (for a time, anyway), I think the great reviews obscured for me the well-known fact that every single metal gear solid game has horrible controls. It's always just been something you have to get around to see great graphics/gameplay scenarios/cutscenes, etc, none of which were really present in Portable Ops.

I disagree, the story was fantastic and engaging, the comic style cutscenes were awesome, the gameplay was quite unique for the series but worked out quite well Am I the only person here who actually liked PO?

I never understood this complaint about MGS. I've never had any problems with controlling any of the games, which is odd. It seems to be one of the most criticized aspects, yet it's something I've never experienced.
Except in Portable Ops. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game. Put the controls for that WERE horrible, mostly due to the camera. It only brought back the same question I had when I first saw the PSP - "Why the hell is there only one analog stick?".
That said, I'm looking foward to PW. Portable Ops kept me occupied for a long time, and I expect nothing less from this.

It mainly stems from the fact that there's multiple functions for nearly every button, depending on context or pressure or number of presses or whatever. Memorizing it all is hard enough, and even once you have, you're still likely to slip up and do something you didn't intend. And aside from that, Snake's walk/rotate movement has always felt a bit wonky, especially on PSP.

One of my complaints about the controls of every MGS game is that they use Japanese Playstation standards, where Circle button is the default for "OK" and X is cancel. In every other region the X button is OK and Circle is cancel, so it screws with muscle memory. It doesn't take long at all to adapt though, but every time I return to playing a MGS after a long time the problem would be back.
Also the fixed camera in Snake Eater sucks balls a lot of the time. I would often lose my orientation and end up going around in circles. Thank God Subsistence gives you an alternative.

It runs on, I think, 5.50.

I believe part of it was the existing library of the PSP at the time. Compared to most other games for this system, it was overall more enjoyable. Granted, it was only my second PSP game and I had no problem slamming it on the wall for being shitty, so make of it what you want.

I never got used to the 3D camera in Snake Eater. To this day, I play with the fixed camera. I find the 3D camera works much better in MGS4.
