FMV games don't really count, since I erased almost all memory of them after I played one that had Rob Schneider in it, but I can make a concession just this once. Damn you and your apparently undamaged powers of recollection.
Okay -- so video gaming seems to be heading there. Again.

Rob Schneider? Oh god...
Eh, they weren't all bad. Even though I was making fun of it up above, I actually sorta liked Sewer Shark. Granted, this was back in the day when the "multimedia experience" was hyped as a thing of the future, and fullscreen video was practically unheard of in anything besides videotapes and supercomputers with 16 meg of ram. I'm sure the newness and display of cutting edge technology had something to do with it, but still...it was pretty alright.

Well, I climbed aboard that train when it was just about running out of steam. Never did play Sewer Shark, but I was there around the time of Phantasmagoria and Rebel Assault.
There wasn't much I liked about the games, apart from the fact that they made for some entertaining reactions from some corners of the gaming press, who apparently hadn't seen movies with sex and violence in them until they popped Phantasmagoria into their PCs.

I thought The Beast Within was a really good FMV game though. Phantasmagoria was fun enough, but weak in the gameplay department.

It's the same reason why I never liked Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, or any of the old beat em ups. They're fun at first, but they get repetitive so quickly. That's why I want a little more for this new Castlevania.
Actually god of war has a perfect balance of action, platform and puzzles (with a good story on top of that). It really doesn't have much in common with those games. It's more like a successful mix between devil may cry and prince of persia, and it's anything but repetitive.
But back on topic, I don't really like the footage of the new metroid so far. I really loved the gameplay in the prime games but this one seems a bit weird. Also I'm not a big fan of team ninja. The only games I've played from them is ninja gaiden 2 and dead or alive which were really stupid plotwise (titties, ninjas and more titties !). They're the last developpers I would turn to to develop a metroid game. But whatever it's not like I own a wii anyway.

It shouldn't matter if their utterly incompetent at plotlines - the only business a plot has in a metroid game is to explain in the first 30 seconds why the hell there are metroids running around again, then go back into the corner and shut up.
The fact that they're making nods to fusion is already a bad sign.

Not to mention the bosses in NG2 were almost impossible without looking for some online help.

Fusion was a great game.
Not as good as Super Metroid but holy fuck SA-X still scares the shit out of me.
